Climate and Resiliency Intern

(Auxiliary – 4 Months)
[$32.35 per hour (2024 rates) plus 14% in lieu of benefits]
The District of North Saanich invites applications for a Climate and Resiliency Intern (Auxiliary). The position would be full time and temporary lasting for a period of approximately 4-months.
Under the direction of the Director of Planning and Community Services, the Climate and Resiliency Intern will support the development of a new Official Community Plan and Climate Plan. The Climate and Resiliency Intern must use their skills in policy-focused research, to support drafting of implementable and forward-looking policies for the Official Community Plan and Climate Plan. An ability and affinity for communicating with the public tactfully is essential, as public input is a priority component of the project.
The Climate and Resiliency Intern will be responsible for climate policy research, will be involved with public engagement, and will support review of drafted Official Community Plan policies using a climate lens. The Climate Intern will support the development of a background inventory of Climate Plan policy with an emphasis on actionable policies.

The successful candidate will have a High School Graduation and currently working towards completion of a university degree at UVIC, UBC, UNBC or SFU in a related field that is relevant to the roles and responsibilities, and three (3) years of related research and customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferably in a Local Government environment.
This position is a Union position and is subject to the terms and conditions in the collective agreement between District of North Saanich and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 374.
