Clinical Laboratory Assistant

 Job Description

 Reporting to the Laboratory Manager and Technical Supervisor, the incumbent will coordinate and perform tasks in several areas of the Clinical Laboratory. 

Responsibilities include:

• Oversee patient specimen arrival from outside laboratories;
• Enter information from requisition form into the laboratory database;
• Process whole blood and cryopreservation of white blood cells;
• Prepare analytical reagents and cell samples;
• Following established protocols as documented in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP);
• Assist other laboratory personnel when requested;
• Perform equipment maintenance procedures; 
• Participate in regular proficiency testing and further training which will be provided as appropriate;
• Participate in laboratory meetings.

 Qualifications

• General Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate from an approved school;
• Experience in Hematology/Immunology;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Must be willing to undergo additional and ongoing training in timelines required by employer;
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, internet, etc.);
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, solid organizational, prioritization skills and a passion for providing excellent medical laboratory testing services;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
