Job Summary
This Clinical OT II is clinical lead/supervisor over other occupational therapy professionals and support personnel at GB Cross Memorial, Clarenville and Dr. Albert O'Mahoney Manor. This Clinical Occupational Therapist II provides responsible professional and clinical leadership/supervisory occupational therapy services. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II applies clinical knowledge and skills to plan, implement, co-ordinate, evaluate and oversee occupational therapy services. Work includes client management, input into program and policy development, project development, quality initiatives, participating in evidence-based practice, education, and community capacity building.

This position provides Clinical Occupational therapy services as a member of an interprofessional team for acute care, LTC and community based clients at this site. This Occupational Therapy position is responsible for the identification of occupational performance areas, completion of assessments, co - creating treatment goals and objectives, providing intervention, education, establishing outcomes and follow up plan with the client and caregivers. This is a challenging position, which requires an individual to practice independently, to be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team, build respectful relationships with clients, team members, and others involved in the systems in which they work. The Occupational Therapist will recognize the social, structural, political, and ecological determinants of health impacting clients. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II is responsible for representing occupational therapy and assisting the Clinical Occupational Therapist III with co-ordination of Occupational Therapy service delivery at this site. The Occupational Therapist receives clinical support and mentoring from the Occupational Therapist III for Peninsulas, NLHS.

The position also assists with coverage of services in other areas as required. The OT will be responsible to precept Occupational Therapy students and offer other clinical education experience to students within Eastern Health.

This position reports to the Allied Health Manager, Peninsulas - NLHS and maintains accountability to the Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Consultant for integrity and professional practice issues.

Job Demands

Regularly stands and walks when performing clinic activities and may drive to and from sites/homes within the region.
Regularly sits to perform administrative functions, observe or counsel clients. May also work in awkward or cramped positions at times.
Fine/finger precision work is required when working on the computer or using tools to adjust or repair equipment.
Hand tools are used to make adjustments on equipment and may require rapid physical movement and reflexes, as well as controlled movement. Gross motor skills and the use of heavy equipment are required when working with clients in performing therapeutic activities, or to move equipment.

Job Qualifications
Graduate of a school or program of occupational therapy recognized by the board.
Current licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board.
A minimum of three years of experience within the last five working as a Clinical Occupational Therapist in adult physical medicine is required.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, with interprofessional team members, patients/residents/clients and their families in a one-to-one and group environment.
Demonstrated effective written communication skills required for client documentation, report writing and professional communications
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of occupational therapy practice to others.
Proven supervisory and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and train Clinical Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Support Workers and students.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team.
Proven ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical and effective practice.
Proven ability to manage multiple practice settings.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
