Clothing Donation Centre Attendant – Part-time
Through our National Diabetes Trust operations, we divert more than 48 million kilograms of clothing and household items from landfills. One hundred per cent of net proceeds directly supports Diabetes Canada and helps send more than 2,400 children and youth with Type 1 diabetes to Diabetes Canada's D-Camps. Additionally, what we raise, funds world-leading diabetes research, education, and advocacy.

We are currently seeking a Part Time Clothing Donation Centre Attendant to provide excellent donor service to encourage repeat donors to the Clothing Donation Centre (CDC).
Job Overview
Receive donations of clothing, linens, shoes, small appliances, and housewares from the public on a regular basis and stored appropriately in the office storage area or other designated area so as to ensure that there is no damage to the goods. Ensure no garbage is left inside or outside the building, that items do not accumulate on the property, and that the site is maintained at the start, end, and throughout the shift but not limited to the onsite drop box(es).
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Promptly opens the Clothing Donation Center each assigned day and prepares site for that day’s business.
  • Cheerfully greets donors upon their arrival at the Clothing Donation Center
  • Assists donors by transferring their donations from their vehicle into the office, truck or trailer.
  • Explains Diabetes Canada/NDT charity mission to donors, as requested.
  • Administrative responsibilities include: store and organize all donations in a secure location, prepare all paperwork accurately along with daily and weekly reports. Respond to telephone calls as well as some regular duties utilizing designated computer files and database as needed.
  • Re-bag cloth items as required so that all items are in standard 67 L capacity garbage bags (66 x 82.5 cm). A supply of bags will be provided for you and replenished as required. Stacking the collections as per the company’s policies in the storage area for efficient accounting and handling.
  • Respond to and resolve complaints from donors, assist in training new attendants, and escalate more complex issues to the Manager/Supervisor.
  • Arrive for work to conduct the duties required of you for the day.
  • Responsible at all times for personal safety and will:
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations including understanding and adhering to the requirements of the Health and Safety Manual, and any other rules and regulations established by National Diabetes Trust; attend Attendant safety training sessions and meetings as required.
  • Secures CDC site at the end of the business day.
  • Keep the office clean and tidy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
  • Clothing Donation Centre (CDC) Attendant is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle and feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • The CDC Attendant must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 – 40 lbs.
  • Strong customer service organizational skills including:
  • Ability to project a positive business-like image to the public
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to provide calm assistance to upset clients
  • Ability to maintain professional attitude even during stressful situations
  • Ability and willingness to learn all aspects of the operation for excellent customer service.
  • Reliable transportation and commitment to attendance and punctuality.
  • Willing and able to work weekends 9am to 4 pm- Saturday & Sunday.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Education and Experience:
  • least six months to one year’s customer service experience (preferred)
  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Satisfactorily pass physical and background check.
