The Technical Services Unit manages, operates, evolves the information management technology (IMT) infrastructure and productivity tools, and manages the overall provision of technical services including servers, network, storage, security, data centres and shared IT facilities for the Government of Alberta. This work is done both physically and logically in hybrid data centres existing on government premises and in the cloud.

Role Responsibilities

The Cloud Integration team is part of the Cloud Platform Services pillar in the Technology and Support Operations (TSO) division. This team delivers technical analysis, design and implementation of cloud projects in the cloud service providers (AWS, Azure and GCP) used by the Government of Alberta (GoA).
The Cloud Integration team works with many teams in the division to provide efficient and secure delivery of services. Examples include:

  • Access Management – Creation, management, and termination of accounts
  • Digital Delivery and Innovation – Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, Product teams, Database teams
  • Software Management teams – Application Management (AMS)
  • Platform Services – Collaboration, ServiceNow, etc.
  • Technical Services – Server management, Storage, Network
  • Service Desk and End User Computing Services
  • Service Design, Quality and Lifecycle Support – Change Management, Incident/Problem Management, Service Management, etc.


Reporting to the Manager, Cloud Integration and Operations, this role is part of a team of IT professionals that provides cloud platform management and integration services, enabling the adoption and use of cloud services for GoA infrastructure and applications teams across the Technology and Support Operations (TSO) division. These services include but are not limited to Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS), Platform as a Service (PAAS), and Software as a Service (SAAS). Implementation of these services use various native cloud tools within the AWS, Azure and GCP cloud platforms along with using MS PowerShell and other cloud scripting languages.
As the successful incumbent, you will demonstrate:

  • The ability to understand requirements and translate business problems into technology plans.

  • The ability to assess the impact of technology changes to multiple environments and communicate this to multiple sectors/ministries/departments, senior SA management, and other impacted stakeholders.

  • Experience supporting a broad range of enterprise technologies.
  • Experience supporting cloud and on-premise infrastructure.
  • Extensive use of analytical, planning, organization, evaluation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to detect and repair problems, independently and quickly, is paramount to this position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to staff with a varying degree of systems understanding (none to expert).
  • Work effectively on a team as well as independently and handle high stress situations.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience in Enterprise Technologies.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain an enhanced or where necessary a top-secret security clearance.

Equivalencies:

  • A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and six years related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and seven years related experience.

Assets:

  • Experiences supporting a broad range of enterprise technology.
  • Experience supporting cloud and on-premise infrastructure.
  • 2-3 years’ experience supporting cloud service providers in a multi-hybrid environment integrated with a large enterprise.
  • Superior technical abilities to manage implementation of cloud-based services.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • Project planning experience.
  • Knowledge of Government IT policies and legislation and an understanding of its application on related assignments.
