Description
The Western Development Museum - Corporate Office in Saskatoon is seeking a Collections Care Specialist, responsible for the care and stewardship of the WDMs Collections through a program of preventative and interventive conservation activities.
The Collections Care Specialist will be responsible for:
Developing and implementing short and long-term conservation strategies, plans and procedures.
Developing and delivering ongoing training and communication to Museum staff on artifact care and handling, including preventive conservation best practices.
Identifying and communicating hazards in the Collection.
Monitoring the condition of the WDM Collections in exhibit and storage locations across all five WDMs.
Planning, performing and documenting conservation treatments for artifacts as approved by the Collections Manager.
Preparing new acquisitions and artifacts for exhibit and storage (cleaning, housing, etc.).
Collaborating with exhibit and other staff to identify appropriate materials and methods for artifact transportation, mounting and exhibit.
Overseeing and directing volunteers, interns and other staff working in the conservation lab and artifact workspaces.
