Technical SpecialistCombat Systems/C4ISR

Position Summary

Victoria, BC (On-Site)

As part of the West Coast Engineering team, the Technical Specialist - Combat Systems/C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) to support the Royal Canadian Navy Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV), Joint Support Ship (JSS) class vessels managed by Thales under the AOPS & JSS In-Service Support (AJISS) contract and Minor Warships and Auxiliary Vessels managed by Thales under the MWAV contract.

The Technical Specialist provides technical services and advice for designated system and equipment repair, operations and maintenance activities within the Technical Specialists area of expertise and authorization. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Command & Control (Command Management, Navigation Systems)
  • Communications (Internal & External, SATCOM, Radios)
  • Computers (NavIS, networks)
  • Combat Systems (Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Defense)

The C4ISR Technical Specialist also supports the Engineering Team with various activities such as development and implementation of Engineering Changes, creation of Deviations & Waivers or surveys on board the ship while alongside.

The C4ISR Technical Specialist will also advise the Service Delivery team and Engineering team on matters relating to requirements for corrective maintenance, engineering changes and verify planned maintenance changes related to C4ISR.

Key Areas of Responsibility

The Technical SpecialistCombat Systems/C4ISR is responsible to:

  • Develop strong working practices with ship staff, Service Providers to promote best working practices and a good working relationship within Thales and the customer's organization to ensure coordination and rapid resolution of issues, liaising with OEMs, maintenance service providers, and ship technicians/operators to optimize existing maintenance schedules;
  • Prepare documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers; documents/reports such as pre and post refit condition assessments, technical investigations, test & trials, OPDEF close-outs, installation set-to-work and Physical Condition Audits
  • Review technical documentation, initiating changes and contributing to engineering change proposals;
  • Conduct a range of technical investigations (both desktop and on board) into problems associated with system equipment and/or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development;
  • Oversee technical service activities for designated vessels and/or systems, to ensure materiel readiness objectives for the Platforms are being achieved;
  • Support test & trials, verification and validation, condition based monitoring, and class survey activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Electronics or Networking Engineering Technician Diploma, with a minimum 5 years of experience in working in a high technology (networked), technical environment including work involving the instruction, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of the following systems:

  • VHF/UHF/HF communications systems
  • Satellite Systems
  • Computer Networks (wired and wireless)
  • Telecom Systems
  • Radar Systems
  • Electronic Warfare Systems
  • Navigation Systems
  • Weapons Systems

OR

  • Minimum of Military QL5 Electronics or Networking Technician certification in an approved Military Trade.

Able to obtain a Canadian security clearance of SECRET and meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration Program and ITAR (Essential).

Strong communication skills (oral and written).

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Military QL6B Electronics or Networking Technician certification in an approved Military Trade.

  • Licensed to work in the province of British Columbia.

Physical Demands

  • Mix of office work and work in dockyards and onboard Naval Ships;
  • Will be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting;
  • Willing to work aloft and in confined spaces on board ships (training to be provided).

Pay Transparency

The anticipated Total Target Compensation (TTC), inclusive of annual salary and bonus eligibility, for this role is 79,028.60 - 158,408.70 CAD Annual. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, provincial, and federal laws.
