The Canada Games Centre (CGC) is a vibrant multi-sport community and recreation centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are a 176,000 sqft facility operated by a non-profit society committed to promoting physical literacy, fitness and wellness, and to supporting the needs of high performance sport & athlete development. The Centre runs sport and recreation programs, camps, fitness classes and so much more in an inclusive environment. Position Summary

Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Manager, the Communications Assistant will be responsible for creating professional and compelling content for the Canada Games Centre to ensure communications accurately reflect the brand. The Communications Assistant will also perform a range of communication support duties related to the daily operations of the Marketing and Communications department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Marketing & Communications Coordinator with various integrated communication projects and initiatives as they support the mission and core values of the Canada Games Centre
  • Write and update website content as needed
  • Manage social media presence and execute social media policy, guidelines and strategy
  • Develop content for e-newsletters, articles, member/staff bios, reports, press releases, and other communication media as required
  • Champion brand standards and core values
  • Assist in the production or implementation of marketing and communication materials including posters, brochures, signage, and program guides
  • Assist in the planning and execution of CGC and promotional events
  • Undertake other duties or special projects as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of communication-related experience
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma; preferably in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience executing integrated social media marketing communications
  • Experience monitoring and responding to social media
  • Experience creating engaging pieces; natural storyteller

Job Specific Knowledge

  • Understanding of marketing, communications, sponsorship, and event management; preferably in the sport and recreation field
  • Understanding of news writing techniques
  • Superior written and oral communication; with the ability to work and communicate clearly, credibly, and effectively

Technical Skills

  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office. Experience with WordPress, Adobe Creative Cloud, Hootsuite, and HTML considered an asset

Working Conditions

  • This position is 35 hours per week, mainly Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Flexibility to work hours (early morning, evening, and weekends) will be required as it relates to the communication and operational needs of the facility, including Person on Duty (POD) shift 2:30pm-10:30pm on rotational evenings and weekends
  • Exposure to loud noises and ability to concentrate in a busy environment

Compensation

Salary will be based on a range from $35,000–$48,000 commensurate with education and level of experience.
