What’s the job?

Reporting to the Vice President of Strategy and working collaboratively with the CEO, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to fill the role of Communications and Government Relations Specialist. In this position, you will play a key role in managing internal communications, fostering Government Relations, and overseeing Indigenous relations for our organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies, maintaining positive relationships with government stakeholders, and supporting initiatives related to Indigenous communities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Internal Communications:
    • Develop and implement internal communication strategies to keep employees informed and engaged.
    • In collaboration with our Lead People Operations Manager, create and distribute regular communications, including newsletters, emails, and intranet updates.
    • Collaborate with various departments to gather information and ensure accurate and timely communication.
  • Government Relations:
    • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with government officials, agencies, and relevant stakeholders.
    • Monitor and analyze legislative and policy developments that may impact the organization.
    • Prepare briefing materials, reports, and presentations for government meetings and engagements.
  • Indigenous Relations:
    • Develop and implement strategies to enhance relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations.
    • Collaborate with Indigenous leaders and representatives to understand their needs and concerns and work collaboratively with the VP of Strategy and CEO to action potential feedback.
    • In partnership with our Lead People Operations Manager and our internal DEI committee, support initiatives that promote cultural sensitivity, diversity, and inclusion within the organization.
  • Supporting Tasks:
    • Coordinate and facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Provide support in the preparation and execution of public events, conferences, tradeshow and business travel.
    • Conduct research on industry trends, best practices, and relevant issues to inform communication and engagement strategies.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of political and legislative processes, as well as knowledge of Indigenous cultures and issues.
  • Experience working in a small, scaling team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Working Conditions: Remote work with travel up to 20%

RaceRocks is a remote-first company with team members across Canada, with an office for optional use in Victoria, BC. Team members are required to be available for team building and collaboration during core operating hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Pacific Time. Outside of core working hours, we offer flexibility to support work-life balance. Although our HQ is in Victoria, BC we are open to hiring candidates from nearly anywhere in Canada. At this time, we do not have the infrastructure to support hiring candidates from Quebec or to hire/support working internationally.
