We are currently recruiting for the role of

COMMUNICATIONS SUMMER INTERN (16 weeks -TERM POSITION)

The Role:

The Communications Intern is an entry level, term, position with the Foundation’s Communications Team, designed to provide introductory work experience in the charitable sector, focusing on communications. The Internship will be a 16-week position offering training, mentorship, and a broad array of learning opportunities for the candidate. The position will be mentored by the Sr. Communications Advisor and Manager of Communications and Marketing.

This position undertakes a wide range of professional duties related to the Foundation's communication activities, emphasizing collaboration with internal and external partners. The role will provide products for various platforms including CJNU Nostalgia Radio programming, website, social media channels, print products, video, internal communications.

The incumbent will have exposure and build skills in the following areas:

  • Story research and development
  • Conducting story interviews
  • Production and publication of print products and advertising
  • Video Production and Editing
  • Event Planning

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Assists in a variety of communications activities to help ensure the Foundation’s proactive positioning and awareness-building within a broad range of marketplaces
  • Working closely with the communications team, takes part in story generation, production, and product delivery across all Foundation platforms, focusing on producing stories in several formats, as assigned
  • Assists in implementing routine, regular media monitoring and measuring/evaluation as required to achieve the Foundation’s overall positioning and marketing objectives and strategies
  • Assists in the development of routine print and advertising materials
  • Assists with special event logistics
  • Assume other duties as may be assigned.

 ABOUT YOU:

  • Pursuing or recent completion of a post-secondary program in communications, journalism, public relations, or marketing.
  • We can support students that would like to use this opportunity to meet a practicum requirement
  • Ability to record & edit high-quality video/audio/photos; including proficiency with DSLR, Adobe Creative Suite or Canva, recording equipment
  • Exposure to Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of current communication trends, activities, and initiatives, as they may relate to the work of community foundations, is considered an asset
  • Adept with current communications tools, technology, and social media platforms is required
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, often-changing, work environment
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

What We Offer:

  • Salary: $20 per hour
  • Vacation pay equivalent to 4% of salary
