We are seeking positive, community-minded team members who are energized by challenge and motivated to serve our communities.
We are seeking 2-3 highly motivated Communicative Disorders Assistants to join the team. As a Communicative Disorders Assistant, you will be paired with a Psychotherapist, and will be responsible for providing primarily speech therapeutic services to clients with communication disorders. You will work closely with clients, families, and other healthcare professionals to implement treatment plans that meet the unique needs of each client. We are seeking a Communications Assistant with knowledge of medical terminology, pediatrics, acute care, anatomy, speech therapy, and physiology to join our team. As a Communications Assistant, you will be responsible for providing support to our healthcare professionals and clients under the age of 18 years.
Duties:
- Provide intervention to First Nation children with a variety of speech & language delay and disorders (receptive & expressive language, articulation, phonology, and fluency under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist
- Maintain records in accordance with the rules and regulations of College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
Willing and able to travel overnight to a welcoming First Nation community bi-weekly departing Monday and returning Friday with a fellow team-member. Then provide services virtually on alternate weeks (Hybrid model)
- Note on the alternate weeks, the clients are seen by a SLP.
Requirements:
- Graduate certificate in Communicative Disorders Assistant
Member of Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC)
- Experience working with autistic population an asset
- Understand and support neurodiversity affirming practices and Natural Language Acquisition
- Experience using play-based therapy with children and youth
- Knowledge of evidence-based approaches to treatment
- Must be self-motivated, organized and have strong written and oral skills
- Have professional liability insurance
- Ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous people, including sound knowledge and understanding of issues impacting mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health in contemporary society;
- Positive, non-judgemental and inclusive towards families experiencing challenges;
- Willingness to work with community healthcare staff to coordinate care for client.
- Willing to participate in case management.

- Travel one-week Monday-Friday to the Fly-in Community with all the materials provided (longer hours) and the following week work from your home (shorter hours) prepping and case managing.

Hours: Minimum 50 - maximum 70 every two weeks.
