Employment Period: January 2024 - October 2024 (casual, part-time)
Estimated hours of work: 33
Number of Positions: Three
Compensation: $25 per hour

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you a good listener? Do you like to ask questions and hear people’s stories? MODUS is looking to hire Community Ambassadors to help host events as part of the City of Salmon Arm’s Official Community Plan (OCP) Update.

The OCP represents the community’s vision for Salmon Arm and shapes how the city will look in the future. The OCP sets out community goals and policies that guide the City’s planning and land use decisions. It covers topics like:

  • Housing and growth management
  • Food and agriculture
  • Transportation
  • Parks and recreation
  • Environment
  • Arts, culture and heritage
  • Community services
  • Economic development
  • Infrastructure
  • And other topics that may arise during the process

Over the next year or so, the community will be invited to provide input on the OCP at a variety of events and in a variety of ways. Community Ambassadors will play an important role in helping to reach and engage the community. Ambassadors will host events with City and MODUS staff. This may include pop-ups booths, focus group conversations, and other activities.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Ambassadors will be responsible for:

  • Attending training and reviewing background information.
  • Hosting engagement events across Salmon Arm with support from MODUS and City
  • staff.
  • Engaging in conversations with the public.
  • Taking notes of community members' ideas, questions, and concerns.
  • Raising awareness of the OCP Update and other opportunities for engagement.
  • Bring their creative ideas to gather feedback from the community, especially from kids and youth.

Shifts will be three to four hours each, on weekends and possible weekday evenings. Shifts will be confirmed before the engagement start date. In total, each Community Ambassador is estimated to work about 33 hours.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Key skills and experience include:

  • Curiosity and great listening skills.
  • Ability to strike up conversation and ask key questions.
  • Comfortable interacting with the public and attracting attention to an information booth.
  • Note-taking and record keeping (i.e., tracking the number of participants).
  • Proficiency in English. Knowledge of an additional language is an asset.
