Position Summary:
Tri-City Transitions Society is seeking an individual interested in and experienced in working as a Community-Based Victim Service Worker with victims of crime related to violence in relationships against women, men, children and youth.

All employees are expected to endorse the philosophy, policies, goals and objectives of the Society and provide services within a cross-program collaborative framework. Transition employees are expected to maintain an accurate knowledge and practice of policies and procedures specific to the program including community resources.
Position Summary: Provides emotional support services, court support and accompaniment, practical assistance, information and referrals to women, children, youth, and men who have experienced violence, abuse or threats including victims of crimes. Provides educational presentations in the community and within schools.

- Knowledge and understanding of the cycle of violence and its effect on individuals and/or the family.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Criminal and Family Court Systems together with applicable legislation.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively, compassionately, and non-judgmentally with clients, peers, and others.
- Experience working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and in preparing and delivering presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to be non-judgmental, open, accepting, and emphatic; as well as being able to develop and maintain positive and professional working relationships with co-workers, clients, and the community.
- Advocacy and accompaniment through the legal, social services, income assistance, housing, and medical systems
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to work effectively within a team setting and with minimum supervision.
- Ability to self-manage client demands, work projects, and workload.
- Knowledge of local and regional resources.
Qualifications:
Diploma in a related human/social service field together with an understanding of the Criminal and Family Court and applicable legislation.
Two (2) + year of recent relevant and related experience working with victims of domestic violence in a Victim Service/Family support position; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
The position requires you to work in a stressful environment, often dealing with clients in crises, which are or have experienced physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
