Position Summary

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking a confident, compassionate, motivated individual to join our Family and Community Support Services Team. Reporting to the Director, FCSS, the Coordinator, Community Development, is responsible for research, planning, and engagement which support collaboration, leveraging community assets, and addressing community needs and issues. This position utilizes various social and Community Development approaches to work collaboratively with residents, various stakeholders, and local and regional community organizations.

Responsibilities

include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with key stakeholders and community residents to develop and evaluate social programs, initiatives and services being offered through FCSS, and other community organizations.
  • Collaborate with community partners to develop a social action plan that addresses short term and long-term community objectives.
  • Lead municipal community initiatives such as the Shape Your Community Grant, neighborhood development initiatives and the community gardens.
  • Provide information, referral, support and advocacy to vulnerable residents along with other members of the public.
  • Management of budget, business plans and monthly reports relative to areas of responsibility.
  • Work with community partners and residents to address issues of concern in a strategic manner utilizing community engagement best practices.
  • Collaborate with other city departments from an asset based community lens to help move social initiatives forward.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a diploma or degree in Human Services, Recreation Administration or a related field and an Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License. A minimum of three years of related experience working with public/municipal service, Community Development, and/or human services is required. Experience in volunteer management is considered an asset. This person must be familiar with the FCSS Act and be proficient at community networking, political awareness, governance, partnerships and mediation skills. Experience in policy and project management, research management and strategy development in the areas of community and social planning is required. The ability to communicate constructively in a positive, confident and respectful manner (written and oral) to internal and external stakeholders is essential.
