About the Organization

The Nunavut Housing Corporation is an agency of the Government of Nunavut that serves the housing needs of one of the fastest-growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, coordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.

About the Opportunity

Currently, we have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Community Development Officer – Finance to join our team in Kinngait, Nunavut.

In this role, you will be reporting to the District Comptroller. Your primary responsibility will be to enhance the financial and administrative capabilities of Local Housing Organizations (LHOs) in the Qikiqtaaluk region. This involves providing administrative and financial accounting support to the Regional Office on Operations and Management (O&M), along with major and minor capital construction projects.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing daily operations of LHOs and jointly administering budgets with NHC Kinngait District Office and community partners.
  • Monitoring and assisting in program delivery, ensuring financial control, and maintaining positive public relations.
  • Offering vital support in administrative and financial aspects to enhance the efficiency of housing projects.

About You

To be considered for this role, you should possess a university degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting and/or Finance. Additionally, you should have at least three years of related work experience in the finance field. We recognize the value of diverse educational and professional backgrounds and will consider a combination of education and experiences.

Your candidacy will be strengthened by:

  • Completion of the third level of a recognized accounting designation program.
  • Operational experience with a Local Housing Organization, a Crown Corporation, or a Government finance department, which will be viewed as a significant asset.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages — Inuktitut, English, and French — is highly desirable. Familiarity with Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktitut, and experience in a northern cross-cultural setting are also valued assets for this position.
