Community Engagement Lead

The Ktunaxa Nation Council has an opportunity for a Community Engagement Lead in Cranbrook BC. Reporting to the Director of Lands and Resources, the opportunity is suited for someone who enjoys leading teams to organize and facilitate engagement in community, communicating vital information with tact and diplomacy, and contributing to positive outcomes for the Ktunaxanin̓tik as a whole.

This is a full-time permanent position with full benefits.

The Community Engagement Lead obtains/seeks and oversees the collection of culturally relevant information from citizens and other cultural advisors to inform Ktunaxa decision-making processes and make recommendations about protection of Ktunaxa rights and interests. The incumbent is expected to rely upon personal knowledge and experience and community connections to provide cultural advice on Lands Sector projects and initiatives and Community Engagement methods. The incumbent must be able to rely upon personal knowledge or seek advice from Ktunaxanintik regarding what can and cannot be shared.

The position will lead a team that anticipates, organizes, schedules and facilitates Community Engagement sessions on behalf of the Lands Sector including activities such as calls to gather, focus groups, on the land discussions, interviews with knowledge holders, etc. Additionally, this position ensures that information provided by citizens at engagement sessions are accurately recorded, shared where appropriate and directed to the appropriate place for follow up.

They will be responsible for developing Community Engagement methods, internal prioritization systems, managing a master calendar and communicating updates to the Lands team, and serving as a communication hub to other sectors of the Ktunaxa Nation Council, Ktunaxa First Nations, and affiliates.

· Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree: communications/engagement, Environmental Management, Business Administration, etc. Equivalencies of education and experience will be considered.

· Ktunaxa Cultural knowledge, knowing what is culturally safe, sensitive and empathic

· Field safety and equipment certifications are an asset.

· 5 years minimum of experience in communications, natural resource management, facilitation.

· Minimum of 3 years of experience in coordination of projects in collaboration with Indigenous or local governments or organizations.

· Exceptional ability to interact with others: tact diplomacy, efficient, courteous, professional, genuine

· Ability to take initiative and seek direction or guidance when needed

· Advocacy skills

· Managerial Experience an asset

· Experience in a natural resource, office or industry office would be an asset. Specific industry knowledge an asset.
