Job description

The Adams Lake Indian Band (ALIB), belongs to the Secwepemc Nation and is a member of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council (SNTC), which consists of 10 Secwepemc Bands. Over the past decades, ALIB has grown tremendously, which has driven the charge for significant changes within the community. They have developed new tools to deliver services in a changing world, which has resulted in more and varied opportunities to create and advance band programs, develop economic initiatives and to provide meaningful employment to more families. The various departments work as a collective team; dedicated to providing successful programs while carrying out their roles and responsibilities. They strive to create an atmosphere of trust and respect that honors the Secwepemc culture.

Adams Lake Indian Band is seeking one fulltime Community Navigator Assistantto work under the direction of the Adams Lake Band’s Community Navigator through the four-year span of the Community Development Wrap Around Initiative (CDWAI). The individual’s main responsibility will be to build capacity for the Adams Lake Indian Band through a holistic approach to community development that puts the ALIB community at the center. The Community Navigator Assistant will work with the Community Navigator and with local leadership to support the design, development, and implementation of ALIB’s Community Comprehensive Strategic Plan (CCSP). This position will liaise with the Community CDWAI Support Team members, including First Nations leadership, ISC regional CDWAI lead, and potential partners.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist in coordinating CDWAI in-community meetings and activities for Adams Lake Indian Band and CDWAI Support Team.
  • Assist in using a wrap-around model to bring partners (government stakeholders, agencies, Non-Government Agencies, Foundations, the ALIB Governance, and the community) together to leverage and align existing programs to support the implementation of ALIB’s identified priorities.
  • Attend all CDWAI-related meetings and record and distribute meeting minutes as directed.
  • Monitor all activities identified in the CDWAI Support Plan and follow-up on action items.
  • Assist in the co-ordination of community engagement activities related to CDWAI.
  • Support the Community Navigator as the point of contact for CDWAI in the community.
  • Liaise with the ISC CDWAI Lead to co-ordinate the drafting and updating of the Community Development Support Plan and manage the community reporting process.
  • Collaborate and review all areas of ALIB service delivery with a lens for capacity development including coordination with economic development partners, analyze service gaps, financial gaps, cultural integration gaps, and work at strategic planning and proposal development.
  • Ensure alignment and implementation of the Community Comprehensive Strategic Plan.
  • Support Community Navigator by typing correspondence and preparing meeting packages.
  • Make travel arrangements.
  • Organize files, retrieve information.
  • Set up conference room for meetings with all supplies and refreshments.
  • Prepare presentation materials.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILILITIES:

· Diploma or certificate in Business Administration, or a combination of education and experience

· 3 – 5 years experience in community-led planning

· Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work as a team player to effectively interact with other departments and staff, elected officials, members, service providers and local government agencies and officials.

· Strong oral and written communication skills

· Highly motivated and the ability to work in a demanding and fast-paced environment.

· Experience in developing an internal communication strategy.

· Experience in sourcing potential community development opportunities

· Ability in proposal development, report writing and evaluation.

· Ability to build and maintain partnerships.

· Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (REQUIRED DOCUMENTS)

  • Acceptable and current Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector (Original)
  • Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License and abstract (copy required)
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Reliable transportation and valid insurance (copy required)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full time Term Position until March 31, 2024 with the possibility of an extension subject to funding approval to March 2027.

The wage offered will be dependent on relevant education and experience, Range: $23-$27 per hour.

Upon completion of probation ALIB offers comprehensive Benefits and a Pension Plan.

Hours per week: 75 hours biweekly (max 37.5 hrs./week), Mon – Fri 8 am – 4.30 pm with flexibility in hours/days of work on occasion.
