Job description

Dispatcher/Batcher

Overview:

We are recruiting a Dispatcher/Batcher to join our team that will be operating the batch plant, taking orders, and dispatching drivers to accommodate daily production needs.

· Midland/Penetanguishene/Tiny/Simcoe County (1 Opening Available)

Responsibilities:

Order Taking:

· Receive and coordinate customer phone orders

· Enter all orders into the batching software by the end of the day

· Understand all aspects of customer requirements (mix, application, address, client information, volume, time of delivery, VAP products, site condition)

· Provide quotes/pricing to customers in guidelines provided by management

· Call customers

· Ensure all phone calls are picked up promptly

· Ensure all missed calls and inquiries are followed up

· Ensure that all opportunities to sell VAP products are exhausted

· Limit Will Calls, Weather Permitting Orders, Standby Orders, top ups, and deadheads

· Provide timely and effective customer service by working with the customer to solve unexpected issues and anticipate future customer needs

· Develop relationships with client base

Dispatching/Scheduling:

· Schedule jobs to make the best use of the fleet

· Schedule deliveries throughout the day to maximize truck turns per day

· Limit idle time of trucks in the yard

· Communicate driver call in times and provide a rough schedule of days events

· Call in drivers when required to limit truck and driver idle time

· Assign drivers for scheduled deliveries

· Book the right number of drivers and driver start times for the following day

· Preplan in advance for raw material inventory levels for coming jobs (Sand, Stone, Cement, Admixtures)

· Inform employees of irregular work hours ASAP

· Communicate to the loader operator and drivers the nature of work for the next day

· Call customers

Logistics

· Ensure trucks have enough fuel for next day’s production requirements

· Direct activities of drivers in the yard, on site, and in transport

· Order raw materials for upcoming production (Sand, Stone, Cement, Admixtures)

· Maintain communication with drivers on route and on site to ensure schedules are met

· Maintain communication with drivers and loader operator

Batching/Plant Operating

· Operate the ready-mix plant and batching software to ensure quality concrete is loaded into trucks

· Gain a basic understanding of mix designs and applications

· Understand batch software

· Manage inventory levels in batching software (powder)

· Mange inventory levels with loader operator

· Ensure bins are full with the correct materials as per order requirements

· Verify batching tolerances

· Troubleshoot/address plant issues

Reporting:

· Ensure payment has been received before concrete is batched

· Process/plan transactions

· File, Organize, and send concrete delivery tickers and ensure drivers are obtain customer signatures

· Maintain and record quality control information accurately (ie. Slump, Air, Temperature, Strength)

· Maintain and record account of volume sold, rejected, and resold accurately

· Document customer issues with plant manager and communicate them with management

· Ensure drivers are completing proper paperwork

· Record keeping of Health and Safety documents

· Ensure all payroll hours are accurate and sent to management for employees

· Send reports as requested by management

Maintenance

· Work to ensure efficient scheduling for maintenance on the plant, loader, and trucks

· Ensure equipment is respected and maintained by drivers

· Monitor plant and truck maintenance need

· Perform routine/daily maintenance on plant/equipment

Other:

· Maintain site cleanliness and perform general labour activities to keep the plant “tour ready”

· Maintain a clean and organised workspace

· Ensure that returned concrete is poured into block moulds and that block making area is keep clean.

· Lead team meetings

· Ensure block moulds are stripped and reset each morning.

· Ensure QC tests are being regularly done on the right loads

· Perform QC tests as required

· Operate loader when as required

· Assist with general labour duties as required

· Utilize company resources effectively

· Adhere company policies

Safety:

· Communicate and improve safety polices for all employees

· Ensure safety guidelines are followed

· Correct safety issues

· Adhere to all health & safety precautions and rules specified by federal, provincial, and company rules including but not limited to: wearing PPE, attending safety meetings, and reporting unsafe conditions, routes, or accidents

· Report issues and incidents to management

Qualifications/Requirements:

· Previous dispatching/transportation planning experience is an Asset

· Previous concrete batching/batch plant operating experience an Asset

· Previous supervisory and management experience is an Asset

· Concrete/Ready mix knowledge and experience is an Asset

· Mechanical aptitude is an Asset

· Previous customer service experience is an Asset

· Quality Assurance is an Asset

· Previous experience operating loaders and heavy equipment is an Asset

· Satisfactory Background Check

· Must be able to reliably commute for this job
