About the Opportunity
Please Note:  This is a designated position.  The successful candidate must be from the following designated groups in order to be considered and must self-identify as Indigenous peoples, Black/African Nova Scotians, people of African descent, people of colour, persons living with a disability/disabilities, Foreign National/Newcomer and persons of diverse sexual orientation and gender identity and/or expression.
Reporting to the Public Health Manager- Healthy Communities, the Consultant - Health Equity, provides advanced knowledge, leadership and coordination for Public Health Central Zone workforce development in the area of Health Equity principals and approaches into Public Health work. They will demonstrate leadership behaviors and capabilities, consistent with LEADS in a Caring Environment framework, which include Leads Self, Engages Others, Develops Coalitions, Achieves Results and Transforms Systems and will be accountable to support the NSH mission and vision. In addition, the Consultant will be responsible to:
-Provide expert level advice, evidence and best practice on advancing the understanding of Health Equity and health disparities
-Provide guidance, direction and advice to staff and teams to assist them in the application of Health Equity tools and methods
-Contribute to staff performance development and assessment
-Participate in strategic, operational and financial planning as well as priority setting exercises to ensure a robust Health Equity lens is applied at all stages of program planning, implementation and evaluation.
-Work with a team to develop plans to strengthen the capacity of Public Health staff in the zone principles of Health Equity for social change and better health outcomes for Nova Scotians.
-Collaborate with NSH and other partners to translate evidence, mobilize knowledge, develop plans for building capacity around Health Equity and facilitates the application of Health Equity approaches to practices and policies within NSH and with partner organizations.
-Coordinate local projects, initiatives and teams working on Health Equity and action to address disparities.
-As appropriate, contributes to the transformation of the broader health system at the provincial program and system levels by identifying opportunities to incorporate Health Equity principles and actions.
-Advises zone and provincial leadership teams on the integration of Health Equity in planning, implementation, indicator development and work force development.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
-Baccalaureate Degree in Health Promotion, or other relevant field, with  five (5) to seven (7) years’ relevant experience, OR;
-Master’s in Public Health, Health Promotion, or equivalent, plus three (3) to five (5) years’ of relevant experience (equivalent combination of education and seven (7) years’ progressive leadership experience may be considered)
-Eligible for registration with a professional body as appropriate
-Experience in planning, development and evaluation of Public Health programs, services and initiatives using appropriate approaches to reduce health inequities
-Demonstrated proficiency in the Core Competencies for Public Health and LEADS
-Demonstrated knowledge of oppression as a social determinant of health and awareness and study of one’s own power and privilege
-Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support Health Equity work
-Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
-Long Assignment Full Time/ 100% FTE/ 75 Hours Bi-Weekly
-Starting March 2024 (approximate 12- month term)
-Travel to various sites may be required
Compensation and Incentives
$36.33- $45.41 hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, life insurance as well as a defined benefit pension plan
