Continuous Improvement Manager

Reporting to the Director of Continuous Improvement & Quality, this position is responsible for the management of Continuous Improvement projects and of the Continuous Improvement team. This management also includes helping to spearhead quality initiatives, problem solving, data interpretation, and Paper Mill production team interaction. The goal is to help develop and implement process and Continuous Improvement, while balancing the needs of the company as a whole. The incumbent will also provide technical support to the Operations group through process analysis, planning and optimization initiatives.

What you will be doing:

• Manage and guide the Continuous Improvement team which includes, 3 specialists, and 2 generalist Continuous Improvement Engineers and Associated Coop Students
• Develop and facilitate the Mill Improvement Process (MIP)
• Interact with Paper Mill production teams on a daily basis to facilitate process improvements, quality initiatives, chemical trials, and other joint projects within the Paper Mill division
• Communicate any key Continuous Improvement and process engineering production challenges to the Group Leader at a weekly update meeting
• Champion and facilitate the external supplier Continuous Improvement Initiatives and yearly reporting
• Role requires majority of time to be at Paper Mill sites supporting direct reports and Continuous Improvement initiatives
• Work in conjunction with the Quality Manager to develop and weekly update on key Quality & CI project initiatives
• Run at a minimum a weekly conference call to lay out that week’s priorities with the CI team and to summarize their weekly schedule and projects to the Group Leader
• Visit each Paper Mill site on a weekly basis according to priorities and project goals
• Lead Research and Development initiatives with a focus on efficiency improvement and cost reduction while maintaining product consistency and quality
• If required visit internal or external customer sites to champion Continuous Improvement or process trials or report back key feedback to Paper Mill production teams
• Support Mill team in regards to key paper making and testing analytical tools (Examples Online Scanner Adjustments, Trending key valves and other critical process controls)
• Backfill engineering support onsite when the site engineers are either on vacation or ill
• Other duties as required

What you will bring to the table:

• Candidates must have an engineering degree from a recognized university with a focus on chemical and industrial engineering or relevant field
• Candidates with 5-10 years’ experience as an engineer is an asset
• Candidates with engineering management experience is an asset
• Paper Mill experience is an asset
• Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Access, and AutoCAD
• Individuals must have excellent written and oral communication
