Our Need
We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Controller, reporting directly to the CEO. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on professional ready to play a pivotal role in optimizing our financial performance, driving profitability, and providing insightful recommendations for continuous improvement.
Role and Responsibilities
As the Controller, you will oversee and enhance financial controls, processes, and procedures in line with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles for private enterprises. Your strategic focus will extend to continental operations across multiple legal entities.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual who will oversee the company's financial records and account personnel. You will be responsible for maintaining all procedures and controls related to the company's financial accounts.
Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with government agencies
- Act as the point of contact for external auditors
- Maintain internal books and finances Analyze financial transactions
- Enhance and maintain robust financial controls and procedures, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term strategic planning. This involves working closely with various departments to gather relevant financial data and ensure alignment with overall company goals.
- Maintain the general ledger and reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly. Maintain oversight of payroll, purchases, accounts payable and payments, sales, accounts receivable and collections, income tax, and budgeting processes.
- Spearhead monthly financial packages on income statement and balance sheet. Act as the primary liaison with external auditors during the annual review engagement and multiple compilation engagement. Serve as the first point of contact for Canada Revenue Agency, Corporate Banking, Insurance, Payroll and Benefits relationships.
- Participate on a team with oversight into AR and AP, responsible for various aspects of financial planning and analysis. Provide guidance, mentorship, and development opportunities for team members.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support decision-making processes and drive initiatives to improve the company's overall margin and financial performance. This may involve analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs), variance analysis, and providing insights into financial trends. The director often prepares and presents financial reports to senior management and other stakeholders.
- Build and maintain financial models to support scenario analysis, risk assessment, and strategic decision-making. These models may cover areas such as revenue projections, cost analysis, and investment evaluations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as operations and sales, to optimize operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This collaboration helps in gathering accurate and timely financial data.
- Work closely with executive leadership in formulating and executing strategic initiatives. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support the company's overall strategic direction.
- Assess financial risks and work on strategies to mitigate these risks. This may involve identifying potential financial challenges and proposing solutions to manage and minimize negative impacts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or 5 - 7 years of related experience

- Proven experience in a finance role, preferably as a Controller or equivalent.
- Demonstrated success in implementing strategic financial initiatives.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to communicate financial information effectively to executive leadership.
- Experience in managing relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors and financial institutions.
- A track record of driving financial performance in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong project management skills.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- GAAP knowledge, CPA preferred
- Strong written, verbal and collaboration skills
