It's an amazing time to join Golden Life as we continue to expand our seniors housing, care, and services within western Canada.
We’re looking for a qualified, part-time (0.55 FTE) Cook/Dietary Aideto join our Village team at Garden View Village in Kimberley, BC. If you are a strong team player with previous kitchen experience, then we’d like to hear from you!
The successful candidate will have related experience and has a passion for providing high quality care and support for seniors.
Food preparation is the essential focus of this position. While operating within the kitchen you will be responsible for, but not limited to preparing veggies, meats, sauces, and salads.
Other duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Preparing and baking desserts and soups.
  • Ensuring the kitchen is operated in a clean, safe and efficient manner and that all staff follows safe food handling procedures.
  • In order to maintain and rotate stock the cooks will need to date and appropriately contain food.
  • Discuss deadlines and timeframes with colleagues to coordinate the sharing of equipment, workspace, and functions.
  • Talk to dishwashers and servers about cleanup.
  • Counts, weighs and/or measures ingredients for assigned food preparation areas.
  • Portions out and serves food and beverages in the dining room, gathers and replaces supplies as required.
  • Loads hot wagons and delivers food to resident neighborhoods.
  • Stock resident kitchens within each neighborhood with such items as paper products, snacks, beverages and staple goods.
  • Prepares tables in dining areas before mealtimes, with items such as napkins, placemats, utensils, condiments and beverages.
  • Prepares beverages and food items such as tea, coffee and toast; assembles food items such as sandwiches and salads.
  • Washes, peels and stores vegetables and fruit.
  • Assists with portioning and service of meals for special and catered events.
  • Operates dishwashing machine, stacks clean dishes and utensils; sets, clears and cleans dining tables.
  • Operates dispensing machines and other related equipment; reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the Kitchen Manager.
  • Performs cleaning tasks such as sweeping and damp mopping floors; sanitizing counter tops, sinks, machines and equipment; spot washing walls and splash areas; and removing trash.
  • Replenishes beverage containers in refrigerator; tidies kitchenette, replenishes supplies; re-stocks refrigerator; drains and resets coffee urn.
  • Performs related clerical duties such as answering the phone and documenting information on menu cards.
  • It is encouraged that the cook chats briefly with guests at their tables to ascertain satisfaction with the food and their service.
  • Complete all required records, which may include, but are not limited to, equipment and food inventory, food and supply orders, budget requirements and other costing measures.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
  • Completion of secondary school.
  • Completion of college program in cooking. Several years of related, proven cooking experience may also be considered.
  • Food Safe Certification.
  • Possesses a Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
  • Able to provide a negative TB screening test
  • Can provide proof of full and current COVID-19 vaccines.
What we offer you
Compensation: Cook $24.86-$26.51 per hour wage range and Dietary Aide wage range from $21.85-23.38 per hour.
