As a Crisis Intervention Specialist, you will address the crisis needs of individuals who are referred to you from The Mayor and Councillor offices or from business units across the corporation. You will provide crisis-focused, short-term assistance, with a reliance on referrals to other agencies for long-term assistance. Primary duties include:
- Respond to referrals from the administrative offices of The Mayor, Councillors, or City business units.
- Assess client needs or presenting crisis.
- Provide emotional and instrumental support to de-escalate the crisis situation.
- Refer clients to appropriate community and government resources and advocate on their behalf.
- Build collaborative networks with community and government agencies in order to develop protocols for effective referrals.
- Report results and outcomes back to referring party.
- Identify gaps in services to assist future planning efforts.
- Perform administrative duties including file management, record keeping, and report writing.
Qualifications
- A degree in Social Work and at least 3 years of related professional experience working with distressed individuals in crisis situations or under similar conditions is required.
- Membership as a Registered Social Worker (RSW) through the Alberta College of Social Workers, or registration prior to first day of work, is required.
- Training or course work on Crisis Intervention, suicide prevention, and short-term supportive counselling would be considered an asset.
- Effective communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking are important for this position.
Working Conditions: This position works with clients who may be unpredictable, highly stressed, intoxicated, or experiencing mental health issues.
