What can I expect to do in this role?
Reporting to the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Infrastructure Legal Services Branch, you will:• Provide strategic legal advice and support to the Ministry of Infrastructure on signature government initiatives and on ministry operations including with respect to major infrastructure development projects; government realty strategy; infrastructure strategy, policy and funding; loans programs; and forfeited corporate property
• Provide advice on a wide range of legislative and regulatory issues, real property, agency administration, and oversight, funding and lending matters, and corporate governance and corporate financing
• Provide advice on Aboriginal law with respect to proposed realty and infrastructure activities, particularly duty to consult and provide support fostering relationships with Indigenous communities
• Work on the development of legislation and regulations as well as on ministerial directions and Orders in Council
• Negotiate, draft, review and /or advise on a variety of legal instruments, including transfer payment and grant agreements, leases, land development agreements, and commercial agreements
• Work together with other ministries, legal branches and government entities
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of OntarioKnowledge and Skills
• Knowledge of and familiarity with: corporate and commercial law, real property law, land use planning, municipal and development law, environmental law, and Aboriginal law and Indigenous legal issues• Ability to provide high-quality written and oral legal advice in these areas including on an urgent basis
• Ability to advise program area clients on the development and drafting of legislation and regulations
• Experience in drafting, negotiating and assessing a variety of commercial and government legal instruments
• Ability to recognize and assess legal implications in ministry practices, programs and policy proposals
• Knowledge of government processes and approvals
