Background & Purpose of the Job

Customer Development, or CD, is what we call our Sales organization at Unilever. Customer Development works closely with our customers (internal and external) to pioneer new products, build categories, and deploy best-in-class retail and shopper capabilities. The Internship role is the primary pathway to beginning a career at Unilever within CD.  The program introduces you to Unilever through a challenging and rewarding experience, which offers you the opportunity to contribute to business goals. Roles are within an Account Team (i.e., Walmart, Loblaws, Digital Commerce) or within Customer Strategy and Planning (CSP).

Account Team Responsibilities

  • Collaborate internally and externally to develop and execute Joint Business Plans with the customer while delivering targets.
  • Account Team Interns responsibilities are determined by the Line Manager and are focused on, but not limited to managing, accessing, and analyzing data.
  • The data sources are Unilever internal data or customer sourced data.  Understanding and using data allows the account team to make fact-based decisions. Building insights into action to deliver business solutions, is a key component in driving profitable growth.
  • You will gain a high level of customer service and follow up to effectively meet the needs of both the internal and external customer base – interaction with multiple touch points internally and externally.

CSP Responsibilities

  • CSP works closely with the CD Account Teams and Brand teams to ensure channel and customer insights are incorporated into the development of category and brand plans.
  • CSP is the voice of the customer (who is selling our product i.e., Loblaws, Amazon) and the consumer (the end purchaser).
  • CSP translates Category Growth Strategies into Channel and Customer plans against the 6Ps (price, pack, place, promo, proposition, product)
  • CSP Interns’ responsibilities are determined by the Line Manager and are focused on, but not limited to managing, accessing, and analyzing data,

Skill sets such as analytics, and building insights into action to deliver business solutions, presentation skills, teamwork, attention to detail and leadership, are utilized and enhanced in both the Account Team and CSP Intern roles. At the conclusion of the term, all interns present their project findings to a panel of key business leaders.  Following the Internship, you may be invited to join Unilever as a Full-Time employee.
