The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) is the service system manager for Child Care and Early Years Programs, Community Housing and Homelessness Prevention Initiatives, and manages the delivery of Ontario Works for the District of Thunder Bay. TBDSSAB's vision is to provide quality services within the context of a commitment to social justice and recognition of people’s potential to achieve self-sufficiency.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Research and Social Policy, the Data and Research Analyst is responsible for the location, organization, interpretation, and application of internal and external Data and Research on issues pertaining to TBDSSAB’s mandate, to support evidence-based service planning, evaluation, and policy development.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Collect and analyze relevant internal and external Data and Research on issues pertaining to TBDSSAB activities and interests.

2. Compile internal administrative data from a variety of sources to analyze and make recommendations to support of evidence-based decision-making.

3. Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to identify data needs, collect data, and provide support in interpreting and applying available Data and Research.

4. Coordinate the use of the Homeless Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS) in Thunder Bay.

5. Research and write evidence-based reports.

6. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

  • University degree with a strong research and statistics component.
  • Minimum of three years of directly related experience.

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to advice on types of Data and Research required to facilitate evidence-based decision-making.
  • Strong skills in quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation methodologies, including a demonstrated ability to craft research questions, identify appropriate research methodologies, marshal and manipulate quantitative and qualitative data to answer research questions, and provide clear and objective interpretations of data.
  • Familiarity with available Statistics Canada Data and products and services.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, focus groups, and consultations to gather data.
  • Excellent computer skills including a strong working knowledge of evaluation and Research software (i.e., SPSS, NVivo, and MS Office applications).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, and establish and negotiate conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, tact and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in order to provide expert research and analysis.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must undergo a successful police records check, Type 2.
  • Use of a vehicle may be required.
  • Travel may be required.
  • May be required to work irregular hours.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
