Direct Support Professionals are accountable to provide high level of quality Person Centered Support. Support is personalized to meet each individual’s unique needs and foster self-determination, respect, and continuous growth. Our programs promote community inclusion and belonging through a vast number of recreational and social activities. Day Program location is in Osler, Saskatchewan. Located 5 minutes north of Warman.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- 1. Develop, coordinate, promote and evaluate Day Program activities for people who experience a variety of disabilities.
- Ensure opportunity for a variety of person-centered activities.
- Assist with implementation of special events for all programs operated under Sunshine Housing Inc.
- Establish and maintain appropriate public relations in the community.
- Develop, recommend, and implement programming based on policies and procedures of Sunshine Housing Inc.
- Complete appropriate documentation and attendance of activities provided.
- Maintain supply of supplies for activities.
- Support individuals on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, to participate in community-based programs such as supported work, volunteer work, fitness and leisure, recreation activities, community events, etc.
- Offer guidance and support that will encourage independence and assist participants in achieving their personal goals.
- Provide feedback for Person-Centered Plans or other Support Plans for people supported by implemented, monitor plans and provide feedback.
- Daily documentation and specialized documentation as required by Sunshine Housing Inc.
- Provide transportation to and from community-based programs with company vehicles
- Administer and record use of prescribed medication as necessary.
- Provide personal care as needed.
- Attending required training and meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality of the people supported and Sunshine Housing Inc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions:
- Work both indoors and outdoors
- Work within the homes and around community
- Work alone and/or in small groups
- Schedule may not always provide for a break
- Long period of standing and movement, ability to push wheelchairs
- Exposure to situations with people supported that may escalate to verbal/physical interaction
- PPE as required
The Applicants:
Applicants would qualify for this position through experience working with individuals who experience disability or related career experience such as Direct Support Professionals, Continuing Care Aid, Therapeutic Recreation Etc. - although this is not a requirement. Applicants must possess;
- good interpersonal skills, willing to learn and receive appropriate training.
- A valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver’s license.
- Criminal record/vulnerable sector check.
- Must provide 3 references ( 2 professional and 1 personal) at the time of the interview.
