Job description

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Cook/Kitchen Manager to oversee the daily kitchen operations at our Childcare Center. This position would require you to prepare and cook all food including lunch and snacks for all children within the center, cleaning and maintaining all kitchen equipment, picking up food and supplies. It could also involve covering breaks when necessary if proper training is held (must have valid Early Childhood Certification level).

Duties:

- Prepare and cook food for all children at the center including snacks and lunches as per the Childcare Menu.

- Ensuring that all kitchen operations comply with food safety regulations and standards.

- Managing inventory which may include creating inventory lists and picking up supplies on a biweekly basis to ensure the center has all food necessary for menu preparation.

- Cleaning and maintaining all kitchen equipment (including dishes, food surfaces, appliances, and food storage areas). Monitor kitchen equipment and appliances to ensure they are in good working order and report to supervisor if replacements are needed.

Additional Duties (if Early Childhood Certification is held)

- Maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children (indoors and outdoors).

- May be required to assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, sleeping, and toileting habits. Must be comfortable with changing children’s diapers and clothing if soiled.

- Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping.

- Adhere to homeroom routines, positive behaviour guidance strategies, and staff policy and procedures.

- Uphold all Childcare Regulations and be comfortable discussing any issues with staff or management when these childcare regulations are not followed.

- Maintaining all training necessary for the position such as Valid Drivers License, First aid, RNC Code of Conduct and Criminal and Vulnerable sector checks, Food Handler Certificate, and Early Childhood Certification (if applicable).

Educational Qualifications/ Trainings:

- Valid Food Handler Certificate (will be trained if not held)

- Cooking experience and knowledge of food safety regulations

Other Qualifications:

- Valid AECENL certification in Early Childhood Education (Level 1, 2 or 3) (Entry Level/ Trainees may apply - Wage Grid salary will be implemented 18.06-18.79/hour)

- Experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting

- Strong knowledge of child development principles and practices

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

- Organizational skills to effectively manage classroom activities and materials

- Time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
