Job Description

Jamie’s Whaling Station Ltd has been in operation for over 40 years, with locations in both Tofino & Ucluelet. We take pride in offering a variety of tours and services, including whale watching, bear excursions, hot springs cove trips, kayaking adventures, and water taxi services. Our fleet comprises a mix of vessels, ranging from the adventurous Zodiac to Covered Cruisers. The primary focus of our operations is the safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessels. The ship’s master is in command, responsible for conveying crucial information to the crew, with deckhands maintaining constant communication to ensure vigilant watch and efficient passenger management. A fundamental understanding of onboard safety equipment and basic maintenance is essential for this
role.

POSITION: Deckhand/Naturalist
WAGE: $19-$23 based on experience
INCENTIVE: $1 per hour for those working a full season.
DURATION: Full-time and part-time seasonal positions (March – October)

Responsibilities & Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure the safety and comfort of passengers at all times.
Assemble all necessary supplies and materials before tour departure, including toiletries, galley items, and emergency equipment; assist with refueling and basic maintenance.
Maintain a keen watch for hazards, remain alert to surroundings, and respond to and accommodate guests in a professional and friendly manner.
Adhere to our dress code/uniform.
Ensure compliance with marine, environmental, and wildlife viewing guidelines.

Marine Emergency Duties A-2 (MED A-2)
Radio Operators Certificate Marine (ROC-M)
Marine Basic First Aid
Seafarers Medical
