If you answered yes, our Pinawa, Manitoba location is looking for a Decommissioning Specialist. The Decommissioning Specialist is responsible for the planning and delivery of work packages in the Waste Management Area Decommissioning & Demolition (WMA D&D) Manual Retrieval Project portfolio. The Manual Retrieval Project encompass planning, managing, and completing specialized decommissioning projects and manual retrievals of Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) at the Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) WMA’s. The Decommissioning Specialist works with the Manual Retrieval Project team to ensure that field activities are planned and implemented in accordance with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) policies and procedures and project management processes to meet WL requirements. CNL Employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e. utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.

What will you be doing?

· Providing oversight of changes in the field during the implementation activities in the project portfolio.

· Preparing detailed work packages, technical documents, work scopes, procedures, estimates, and schedules in support of ILW Manual Retrieval Project.

· Providing innovative solutions to dismantling and waste management challenges.

· Performing field walk downs to verify status of facilities against documented plans .

· Coordinating and monitoring services provided to the team by external suppliers.

· Participating in or leading Pre/Post Job reviews.

· Interfacing with design participants, operations engineers, technical staff, and other subject matter experts and obtaining technical input, as required, to meet project and client requirements.

· Ensuring that deliverables meet the quality objectives of the project and ensuring deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget.

· Identifying, assessing, and initiating changes to approved design, work scope, budgets, and schedules following applicable change control processes.

· Maintaining networks with industry peers/ professional associations, etc. to stay abreast of current industry best practices and leading edge technologies in the areas of building/applied sciences, engineering, and project management.

· Determining and researching equipment and service needs and providing recommendations to the project.

· Interpreting project needs and making recommendations as to alternatives to satisfy the need and the recommended solution and preparing the final solution.

· Supervising field activities performed by internal and external resources. May supervise junior staff within the program

· Working with minimal supervision and direction.

· Working extended hours to achieve milestones as required.

· Contributing to special assignments and/or additional responsibilities as delegated.

· Travelling occasionally to other sites.

· Completing other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

· Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of three (3) years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.

· Honours Bachelor Degree in engineering or applied science from a university of recognized standing or significant related experience in a field of specialization pertinent to the position.

· Experience in a nuclear operational or decommissioning environment.

· Experience in operational equipment, remote tooling and ventilation systems.

· Knowledge of systems, structures and components associated with nuclear facilities.

· Awareness of the National Building Code, National Fire Code, and company program manuals and how they apply to decommissioning.

· Ability to work under pressure with conflicting priorities and regulatory requirements.

· Possesses high-quality technical writing skills. Must be able to gather, analyze, and assemble a variety of technical information.

· Demonstrates sound capabilities in interpreting complex drawings and specifications in either paper or electronic format.

· Possesses proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook), and CNL’s formal document template and approved forms.

· Has experience in dealing with contractors.

· Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills that are required to interact with team members, internal suppliers, operations representatives, external contractors, project stakeholders, and CNL management.

· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Results driven and able to interpret project needs and implement solutions.

· Familiar with the specific safety regulations, guidelines, standards, and codes relevant to the decommissioning process.

· Has knowledge of and ability to apply radiation protection principles, measurements, and contamination controls.

· Possesses knowledge of CNL’s practices, procedures, and organization.

Working Conditions:

· Routinely completing site visits during all stages of the project, requiring the use of all applicable safety equipment and absolute adherence to safe work policies/ practices, radiation protection policies/ practices and any other CNL safety requirements as mandated by the organization.
