Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)

The Students’ Association of Red Deer Polytechnic exists as per the Post-Secondary Learning Act (see Student Affairs section 93: Students association) and plays an important role in student life at Red Deer Polytechnic. It advocates for and represents students, provides a myriad of important (and fun!) services and events, and is one of the largest employers of students on campus.

What you will be doing:

The Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) for the Students’ Association General Election is a key member of the Association Election Team responsible for assisting the Chief Returning Officer (CRO) with monitoring the election and arbitrating any election issues. The DRO is selected by the CRO or designate. When appointed, the DRO must complete training and sign a confidentiality agreement.

Duties & Responsibilities

General duties may include:

• Monitor elections activity, including, but not limited to, posters and social media;
• Host and moderate a Candidate’s Debate or Discussion Forum;
• Attend the All Candidates Meeting and Election Announcement;
• Assist the CRO with arbitrating candidate and/or procedural issues;
• Cast the tie breaking vote;
• Other duties as directed by the CRO
• Provide a report once the election has ended

What will the right person look like?

The ideal candidate for this position should possess strong organizational skills, and clear communication abilities. You are comfortable approaching students and are willing to learn. We are small but mighty team, who is looking for a team player who is willing to learn and think outside of the box.

Eligibility

• Currently enrolled RDP student (Preferred)
• Must have some daytime availability during weekdays between 9am-4pm
• A high school diploma or equivalent educational qualification is required

The details:

• Monday - Friday
• Some weekends as needed
• Term certain (February 5th - February 29th)
• Must supply Availability i.e. work and/or school schedule
