Join the senior leadership team at the Kenora Jail!
We are seeking a confident leader with expert corrections knowledge to join our team and lead the overall operations of the institution.
As the Deputy Superintendent, Operations, you will be responsible for the daily operation of the institution and the overall strategic and operational planning activities, including direct oversight of a team of correctional managers and staff.
This exciting and rewarding opportunity will allow you to showcase your superior leadership abilities, utilizing your keen ability to coach, mentor and develop staff and colleagues, while establishing a positive workplace culture. Each and everyday you will be making a valuable contribution to ensuring public safety through support of the care, custody and control of offenders.
Please note: As this is a frontline essential position, your physical presence at the office is crucial to this role. This position is mandatory onsite at the Kenora Jail.

Located just 30 minutes from the Manitoba border, Kenora is a small city with a population of over 15,000 situated on the north shore of the Lake of the Woods in North Western Ontario. • Providing leadership and managing a team in the delivery of programs and services
• Participating in the integration of programs within the institution's security framework
• Providing direction in the planning and coordination of operations, programs and services, ensuring compliance with the institution's key performance indicators
• Acting as a liaison between the institution and offender families and various groups/agencies, and represents the institution in stakeholder negotiations and building coalitions
• Assuming responsibility for the administration of the institution during after-hours and weekends, on a rotational on-call basis

How do I qualify?

Leadership and Management Skills

• You have proven leadership skills to oversee the delivery of institutional programs and services.
• You have proven skills to manage staff, provide coaching and direction and foster an engaged and inclusive environment.
• You act with integrity, even when it is difficult to do so.
• You demonstrate knowledge in human resources management, financial resources management, performance management, training and development and managing complex labour relations issues.

Correctional Knowledge

• You have knowledge of the current theories, principles and practices of correctional institutions management, finance and administration including knowledge of human behaviour to provide for the care, custody, control, safety, programming and accommodation of inmates.

Analytical, Problem Solving and Strategic Planning Skills

• You can apply a systematic approach in the development of complex work plans to achieve organizational goals.
• You can use evidence-based approach for investigations.
• You can manage a challenging workload with multiple priorities and stressors, while responding calmly and rationally to defuse volatile situations.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You are a skilled communicator with the ability to foster trusted work relationships with stakeholders and staff at all levels.
• You can conduct complex negotiations and build coalitions with a variety of stakeholders and partners.
• You can write and articulate complex, technical and/or specialized information in terms that are easily understood by a variety of audiences.
