VAFCS strives to provide individuals with the tools that empower them to live more sustainable and independent lives which will benefit their own sense of well-being in the long run.
Therefore, VAFCS housing strategy program aims to minimize the barriers for urban aboriginals by providing them housing support and enabling them to find suitable housing and supports for job and food security. Similarly, Skeena Transition House has been a hub for indigenous people to maintain a secure home for themselves with resources and support at their fingertips. VAFCS programs that are offered at Skeena House are aimed to create better opportunities, promote social participation and enable individuals to seek support in life skills, culture and education.
Skeena House affords marginalized individuals to have secure and stable transitional housing for up to 24 months. Thus, individuals are enabled to be put in touch with resources that will stimulate their growth, find secure housing, and empower them to be self sufficient. More importantly, VAFCS, provides programs and services on site to promote social participation, culture, and support tenants to learn residential responsibilities so they are set up for success when they move onto permanent housing after the 24-month period.
