The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division within the Ministry of Technology and Innovation (TI) leads the development of the next generation of digital public services for the GoA. DDD partners with other departments to deliver products, platforms and services that are better, faster and easier, through modern user-centered agile processes. DDD offers potential candidates a unique opportunity to work on meaningful challenges that transform government and positively impact Albertans.
The Software Delivery branch within DDD is accountable for the excellence of the technical delivery of software. The branch oversees the technical practices of Architecture, CloudOps, DevOps, & Quality Assurance (QA), and Software Development. The branch also enables product and platform teams by providing access to underlying infrastructure such as capability in architecture, cloud services, and common tooling and patterns.

Role Responsibilities

The Software branch is looking for a DevOps Specialist. This position will report to the Manager of DevOps.
The responsibilities for this role include:

  • Collaborating with agile teams and stakeholders to understand and improve services for both specific product teams and for the DevOps practice.
  • Working with product teams to fully understand the problem, the anticipated solution, and then leading the effort to automate the tasks necessary to implement that vision successfully.
  • Working with the product team in all parts of the DevOps environment, including automating the CI/CD pipeline and implementing an environment that can be effectively monitored and maintained.
  • Developing reusable tools and scripts that can be used to support multiple product teams achieve their goals, and reusing tools and scripts that others have created to achieve the same effect.

Qualifications

A university degree in computer science or a related discipline plus two (2) years related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Requirements:

  • Experience in DevOps and user-centered digital delivery.
  • Experience writing deployment scripts and managing environments.
  • Experience managing continuous delivery infrastructure.
  • Experience performing maintenance activities such as critical updates in production environments.
  • Experience working with open source ecosystems such as Node.js/NPM.
  • Experience using source control, particularly git, for Infrastructure/Configuration as Code in collaborative service development and operations.


Equivalencies:
A related two-year diploma in computer science or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution and four (4) years related experience; or a related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five (5) years related experience.
Assets:

  • Experience with GitHub.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and Azure.
  • Experience with CI/CD Pipelines and Workflows within GitHub or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with Jira.
  • Experience with AWS
