This posting is to fill one permanent position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

As the responsible stewards of public funds, the Department of Finance partners to ensure value for money in the delivery of programs and services for Yukoners. The Department of Finance serves as the territory's statistical body and develops the territorial budget, corresponding supplementary budgets and Public Accounts for the territory.

The Department of Finance is also responsible for negotiating, coordinating, and representing Yukon on inter-governmental financial matters with other jurisdictions. In its capacity as a central agency, the department works with all areas of government in the creation of their annual departmental budgets and in processing operational accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.

The Financial Operations and Revenue division provides corporate financial services to the Government of Yukon. This includes the provision of financial systems and process development and support, investment and Debt Services, taxation administration, accounts payable and accounts receivable for the Yukon Government.

The opportunity…

The Department of Finance is seeking an accomplished senior level professional to join our management team. The successful candidate will play an integral role in leading the government's treasury, ensuring the efficient management of our banking, investment and borrowing functions and policy development in related areas. They will also represent the Department of Finance on project-specific activities.

We are seeking a candidate who possesses a robust background in strategic financial planning and analysis and has the ability to conceptualize and execute changes and initiatives in a systematic and cooperative way. Your expertise and forward-thinking approach will balance the needs across all levels - be it internal, external, departmental, or corporate. You are considerate, persuasive, and strategic, ensuring successful outcomes within the confines of government structures, processes, and legal frameworks.

Essential Qualifications

  • Professional accounting designation in good standing is required (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).

  • Degree in accounting, business administration, commerce or in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

  • Considerable senior level experience in finance and accounting (preferably in the public sector).

  • Experience managing banking arrangements, cash, borrowing and investments in a large organization.

  • Experience with data analysis and financial forecasting.

  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course is an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
