Information & Instructional Technology Services (IITS) provides the technological vision and leadership for the development and implementation of information systems, processes, and associated technology to support the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus' academic mission and administrative operation. Your Opportunity:
Reporting to Senior Director, Technology and Business Transformation, the Director, IT Operations provides strategic leadership, planning, oversight, financial and human resources management as well as ongoing management, maintenance and support of the campus’s shared IT infrastructure, services, solutions and technology assets and for transitioning new capabilities into production.
The Director ensures uninterrupted operation and support of IT systems and services in support of UTSC campus academic mission and administrative and ancillary operations while maintaining appropriate balance between tactical and strategic demands.
The Director is responsible for all IT infrastructures as it pertains to capital projects. The Director is responsible for the planning, design and construction of renovations, facility renewal projects and capital projects up to $10M and working with the University’s central Capital Projects team on projects greater than $10M. The Director also oversees the planning, operation and maintenance of all existing and future computing facilities and develops facilities and IT infrastructure plans to support the overall strategic plan of UTSC.
The Director fosters a culture of continuous improvement within the IT Operations team and is an accomplished senior technology leader capable of leading both strategically and tactically to empower and inspire team members to relentlessly pursue the department goals and deliver first-rate services. They are a customer-centric champion focused on value creation and adapts to a continually evolving higher education environment and thrives in an autonomous and dynamic workplace. The Director possesses expert knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Information Technology Services Management (ITSM) best practices and is attuned to business and technology trends.
IT operations include all aspects of the UTSC operations and services including supporting over 15,500 campus users and uninterrupted connectivity of all UTSC networks, including the connection with the UofT backbone, supporting access to the UofT wider network and the internet as well as the connectivity of UTSC’s telecommunications infrastructure. The Director identifies opportunities for efficiencies, and aligns UTSC’s technology strategy in response to broader UTSC and University strategic goals and the needs of the UTSC community.
The Director ensures cohesive coordination of the work and activities of all units under IT Operations to provide effective response to campus goals, objectives and issues. They will identify synergies within the departments, with a focus on client service and delivery and develops long-term strategic plans overseeing the development of departmental procedures and processes and the development and implementation of programs to maintain existing facilities within IT operations.
Qualifications Required:
Education:
-Post-graduate degree in computer science, business, science or information studies, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Experience:
-Minimum of 10 years progressive and related experience in a complex organization, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
-Expertise in integrating technologies and management methodologies in a diverse environment, preferably in an academic institutional setting.
-Demonstrated strategic conceptualization, analytical and planning skills.
-Knowledge of current trends in higher education as they relate to the responsibilities of the role.
-Ability to champion campus issues and strategic priorities.
-A proven track record and extensive knowledge of project management and design.
-Experience in planning and managing large, complex budgets.
-Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
-Strong research and analytical skills.
-Demonstrated skill working effectively with a diverse group of clients and experience fostering an inclusive environment.
-Knowledge of building codes and the ability to read architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings is a necessity.
-Expertise in integrating technologies and methodologies in a diverse networked computing environment, preferably in an academic institutional setting, would be an asset.
 
Skills:
-Expert knowledge of ITIL and ITSM.
-Expert knowledge of a broad spectrum of IT infrastructure, systems and services.
-Excellent staff management, project management, technical lead and facilitation skills.
-Excellent knowledge of services development, service operations, portfolio, program and project management.
-Superior project management skills; demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and effective strategic problem-solving skills.
 
Other:
-Excellent administrative, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as well-developed analytical, problem-solving and negotiating skills, the ability to work independently.
-A strong client service orientation, and an ability to foster this orientation in coworkers.
-Ability to plan, design, develop and implement complex IT technology and systems.
-Proven ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships at all levels within an organization, with outside contractors and consultants, and with members of the community at large with a strong commitment to client service.
