The Children & Youth Ministries Director is a member of the Corps (church) Ministry Team at Grand Falls Citadel. The position reports to the Corps Officer (Pastor). The position provides discipleship and outreach ministry to children and youth; support and training for leaders and workers engaged in youth programs/activities; and pastoral care and support to children, youth, and their families.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to the spiritual and pastoral development of Children/youth and their families in the Corps (church) by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours.
- Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates program/ministries relevant to children/youth and their families of the Corps (church) and the community at large; plans and conducts creative worship services, evangelical outreach, pastoral care programs (including on-going visitation), and Bible studies as applicable.
- Assists in the planning of strategies and events to promote inclusion into the church fellowship.
- Prays with and/or leads children, youth, and family members to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits.
- Develops and implements appropriate leadership development programs, recruits, orients, and trains volunteer leaders, assists individuals in identifying and employing their spiritual gifts for the benefit of the church body,
- Ensure volunteers/leaders have completed appropriate screening, according to Salvation Army policy.
- Works as a team member with the Corps (church) Ministry Team and local leadership in corporate problem solving for the benefits of the church and individuals.
- Knows and acts in accordance with security procedures of the church to ensure safety and confidentiality of participants and individuals.
- Interacts with community partners and resources to provide services to individuals associated with the ministry; may include participation on community committees and para-church organization.
- Maintains written records/logs of activities (including activity reports and statistical information).
- Support the planning and implementation of Children/youth programs including new and on-going ministries/programs and special events.
- Develops and implements appropriate leadership development programs for those involved in youth leadership; recruits, orients, trains, and supports and recognizes volunteer leaders.
- Participates in Sunday services as determined by the Corps Officer (Pastor); assists in the development of leadership of youth worship services (i.e. Junior Soldiers Renewal, Family Sundays, Rally Day).
- Provide pastoral care to support spiritual development and well-being of Children, youth, and families (i.e. including support, encouragement, and resources to parents to spiritually nurture their children and families; visitation when appropriate and engaging the Corps Officers (Pastors) in situations as required).
- Outreach to children, youth and their families who are newcomers to the Corps (church), or part of the Corps (church) family and who are not currently attending.
- Member of the Mission Board and any other Corps (church) committees as determined with the Corps Officer (pastor).
- Participate in Divisional/Regional events and committees as determined with the Corps Officer (pastor).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TERM: Regular, full-time: 35 hours per week flexible including evenings and weekends
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications and Education requirements:
- Post-secondary education or equivalent job experience in related field
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- Possess a clear understanding of the ministry/vision of The Salvation Army and the Grand Falls Citadel Corps.
- Be a spiritually mature individual with an understanding of the ministry needs of Children, youth, and their families and a genuine interest in that ministry.
- Have experience in developing/implementing children, youth, and family related ministries/programs.
- Possess the ability to engage in relational ministry opportunities with children, youth, and families
- Possess strong communication skills.
- Possessing musical ability an asset.
- Possess organizational/time management skills.
- Be a strong team player and possess leadership skills.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Participation in The Salvation Army Grand Falls Citadel Corps as an active member is expected.
- Have insured personal vehicle and valid driver’s license. Possess a copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to the Salvation Army.
- Be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Obtain a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening through the local Police Department.
- Obtaining screening through the Salvation Army Internal Abuse Registry.
- Be willing to complete the Salvation Army Praesidium on-line abuse training.
- Be willing to sign both The Salvation Army Code of Conduct for Working with Children Youth and Vulnerable Persons and The Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form.
