Role Description:
Reporting to the Vice President - Finance, the Director of Human Resources will mentor the HR Team, and oversee all HR functions for the entire organization of 350+ people located across Canada. The Director of Human Resources will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team to develop HR policies, programs, and initiatives, aligning them with the company's goals and business objectives. As both a strategic and operational HR professional, the successful candidate will support the HR team in the successful execution of day-to-day operational functions such as payroll and benefits administration, while also identifying and leading strategic initiatives across the organization helping to elevate HR and the business to the next level. Lastly, the Director of Human Resources will play a critical role in fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide both operational and strategic support to the entire HR function;
  • Develop and implement HR strategies that are aligned with organizational goals and objectives;
  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to support business decision-making from an HR perspective;
  • Lead all recruitment, onboarding, orientation, retention, and employee engagement/satisfaction programs and practices;
  • Optimize the company's HRIS, uncovering its full functionality, and using said features to assist with and approve performance management, employee engagement, and time/attendance management practices;
  • Facilitate and oversee the employee performance management process, providing counsel to managers and supervisors on employee performance-related queries;
  • Ensure legal compliance of provincial/federal legislations and regulations on employment laws, updating policies and/or procedures as needed;
  • Support conflict resolution and assist with resolving employee relations issues;
  • Develop strategies to enhance employee engagement and productivity, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture;
  • Oversee the design and administration of competitive compensation and benefits packages, through salary benchmarking and monitoring of market/industry trends;
  • Supporting the unionized group of employees and assisting with Labour Relations matters as needed.

Your Qualifications:

Qualifications include:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably with a concentration in Human Resources, or other related discipline with relevant experience will also be considered;
  • 10+ years' experience in Human Resources including strong Leadership experience, marine industry experience is considered an asset;
  • CPHR designation would be considered a strong asset;
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing policies, systems and best practices in HR, fostering a positive, respectful, and inclusive work environment;
  • Strong knowledge of current employee rights, laws, and regulations throughout Canada;
  • High level of professionalism, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information;
  • Excellent emotional intelligence coupled with a strong business acumen;
  • Aptitude with computer and HR applications, including HRIS (Avanti), and Microsoft Office;
  • Experience or involvement with mergers and acquisitions would be considered an asset.
