Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll accurately and on time using various payroll software systems such as QuickBooks, UltiPro, Kronos and UKG.
  • Examines internal and external benchmarks and evaluates existing Payroll function, processes, and systems
  • Identifies issues, opportunities for automation, waste reduction and scalability and implements solutions by working directly with the People Services team, finance, and vendors/partners
  • Articulates current and medium term strategic objectives and priorities for payroll services
  • Establishes, implements, communicates and maintains standards, best practices, and continuous improvement road map for payroll services including system evaluation and implementation, policies and procedures
  • Ensures payroll services are processed in accordance with established policies and procedures along with all compliance requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with payroll laws and regulations at the provincial and federal level.
  • Manages payroll vendor relationships to ensure maximum vendor performance
  • Responsible for corporate payroll strategy, standards, planning and overseeing communications.
  • Oversees assigned project work, as well as the specific administration activities associated with the delivery of Payroll services.
  • Supports and provides direction on payroll process system’s setup, maintenance, upgrades and enhancements. Partners with PS Systems to upgrade, enhance and maintain payroll systems, configuration and integration with other PS Systems such as Time and Attendance.
  • Oversees payroll team training on policies, procedures, and changes affecting payroll processing; includes determining effectiveness and driving changes to optimize payroll processing.
  • Drives continuous improvement throughout the payroll department to increases productivity and improves service levels.
  • Ensures appropriate key performance indicators and metrics are in place to measure and manage service levels, business risks and improve decision making.
  • Responsible for overseeing the auditing and processing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end taxes and reconciliations.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Payroll Manager or similar role
  • Extensive knowledge of Payroll best practices, supported by a payroll designation is required, i.e. PCP, CPM, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of Payroll processes and procedure
  • Proficiency in using HRIS systems for payroll processing
  • Experience with account reconciliation and general ledger entries
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Familiarity with payroll software such as QuickBooks, UltiPro, Kronos/UKG Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
