Since 2018 Happy Tails Urban Adventures has been helping dog guardians by providing unparalleled attention and care for their special needs dog. Our dog walking service is unlike other traditional dog walking companies where we only offer private and semi-private dog walks to ensure each dog gets the attention they need. We advocate and are proud to provide exceptional pet care built on positive reinforcement, force and shock free with a focus on canine enrichment.
About the Position
Happy Tails Urban Adventures is looking for a reliable Dog Handler who can demonstrate working knowledge and experience when caring for a dog with reactivity, while adhering to positive reinforcement strategies.
In addition to your love for dogs you also possess excellent customer service and enjoy building strong relationships with both the human and furry client. As a Happy Tails Dog Handler, you are excited and proud to advocate for your dog client during the best time of their day!
You will receive thorough, paid training in our methods and standards. This is a part-time position to fill the shifts: Monday-Wednesday between 8:30am - 2pm.
We are a growing but small team and our clients depend on us to take care of their beloved pets when they’re away, thus your professional reliability is a very high priority.
REQUIREMENTS-PLEASE READ FULLY
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Arrive at the dog’s home at the scheduled time and take our client dogs out for on leash private or off leash group hikes
- Leave a daily report card for pet guardians via a mobile app.
- Pick up and dispose of dog waste accordingly
- Clean up and towel off muddy and wet dogs after their outing
- Follow instructions specific to the pet and the home
- Take photos or videos of pets on their walks
- Advocate for the dog in your care by avoiding stressful situations or their triggers
- Working outdoors in all weather
MUST HAVES:
- Legally allowed to work in Canada and currently residing in B.C.
- Possess a valid driver's license and abstract
- Reliable and dependable: our clients rely on us to show up and take care of their pets
- Fluent in English, spoken and written for client communication and reporting
- Confident taking care of small and large dog breeds and all types of animals
- Bondable and willing to complete a criminal background check.
- Detail oriented and ability to adapt to unexpected situations and changes
- Understanding of dog behavior and excellent ability to read dog body language
- Supporter and promoter of positive reinforcement handling techniques
- Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail and quality
- Demonstrate calmness and prepared to troubleshoot when mishaps occur
- Effective time management and quick thinking skills
SHOULD HAVES:
- You are looking for a permanent, long term position and you are available Monday to Friday business hours.
- Access to a safe and insured vehicle preferred
- Dog walking or pet sitting experience a plus
- Pet First Aid certification a plus
- Working with fearful dogs a BIG BONUS!
