Description of Duties:

Transports library materials and related equipment between library branches/sites and other community locations.

Hours: Regular 6 hours per month, 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, usually the third Friday of each month plus additional days as required. This role will also have call-ins with potential short-notice.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operates a Regional vehicle to transport library materials, interoffice mail, deposits (e.g., fees/ fines), and equipment between branches/sites. Transports furniture, as required.
  • Sorts, organizes, and labels materials by destination branch. Handles and secures materials in van.
  • Maintains Regional vehicle (e.g., performs maintenance circle checks/inspections; monitors fluid levels; adds oil/fuel; cleans; schedules maintenance checks; picks up vehicle paperwork). Reports service/repair needs to supervisor. Discusses vehicle service needs with fleet management.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Takes out garbage, recycling, and green bins for pick-up or transport to waste management site, as required.
  • Has a purchasing card for vehicle-related purchases.
  • Interacts with branch staff to arrange material pick-up/drop-off. Has contact and exchanges information with other Regional staff and businesses regarding pick-up/delivery of goods and related scheduling.
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of customer service skills and vehicle maintenance requirements acquired through a grade 12 education.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and legislation (e.g., health and safety).
  • Organizational skills to accurately and efficiently sort, pack, and transport materials and equipment between multiple locations.
  • Ability to work independently to meet set schedules and deadlines; and adapt to changing demands. 2 Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy when transporting interoffice mail.
  • Communication and customer service skills to interact with staff, businesses, and the public; book vehicle appointments and explain maintenance requirements; and participate as an effective team member.
  • Computer skills with the ability to use software such as Microsoft office and mobile technology to communicate with others.
  • Ability to read delivery schedules, policies/procedures, and repair manuals; write memos/incident reports; and maintain a log of vehicle preventive maintenance/service records.
  • A valid Class G driver’s license (or G2 with 3 years of driving experience) and acceptable driving record are required to operate a Regional vehicle; proficiency in operating a delivery van.
  • Must provide an acceptable Police Information Check (Level 2) for bondability.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
