What can I expect to do in this role?

As a problem-solver and team player, you will:
• Develop and conduct research projects to support the tax policy development process
• Mobilize your research and analytical skills to provide expert quantitative and qualitative advice
• Provide detailed analysis to inform the development of policy options and prepare reports on findings
• Brief your Manager, Director and Assistant Deputy Minister on specific policy issues, and provide technical support at senior management meetings
• Work closely with others to prepare briefing materials that present research, analysis, policy and legislative design options and recommendations

How do I qualify?

Technical Expertise:

• You have knowledge of taxation, economics, law, accounting or a related discipline to taxation policy and the policy development process
• You have knowledge of program and policy development principles, government decision-making and legislative processes

Analytical and Research Skills:

• You have demonstrated knowledge of research and economic/statistical analysis principles and techniques
• You can conduct complex analyses, identify options, make strategic recommendations and prepare comprehensive presentations/briefings
• You demonstrate the ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses to evaluate findings and present research analysis

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills to prepare and present materials on complex, technical and sensitive issues, quickly and accurately
• You can create briefing material, reports and correspondence on complex issues for technical and non-technical audiences using standard computer applications
• You can nurture relationships with partner ministries and other organizations

Leadership and Project Management Skills:

• You can lead or participate in projects on an inter-branch, inter-division, inter-ministerial and inter-government basis
• You can effectively complete project deliverables from initial concept through completion

Computer Proficiency:

• You are proficient with standard desktop computer applications (e.g. word processing, presentations and spreadsheets) and modelling tools
• You can manipulate and extract information from database tools
• You can independently conduct in-depth analyses, consolidate complex financial information into standard reports; and prepare comprehensive and compelling presentations.
