Educational Assistant

Edelweiss Private Academy is a small private school for Grades K to 8. Our team of professionals are dedicated to helping our exceptional learners reach their full academic, physical, social and emotional potential. An Educational Assistant is a valued member of this team who plays a key role in providing a positive school experience for our special learners. Under the direction of the Principal and/or classroom teacher, our Educational Assistants provide one to one academic programming, run behavioral management programs designed by Senior Therapists, implement special programs, and provide supervision during lunch and recess time. We are looking for the right candidate who;

· Is creative and enthusiastic

· Can motivate and engage learners

· Is patient and remains calm and non-confrontational in stressful situations

· Has well developed problem solving and conflict resolution skills

· Is flexible and adaptable

· Can respond to a student’s physical, emotional and/or hygienic needs

· Can modify and support learning inside and outside of classroom (i.e. during field trips, DPA, swimming)

· Can collect and record data on student progress

· Can maintain student confidentiality

Professional Requirements;

· A college diploma or university degree (in related field)

· Valid First Aid and CPR Level C Certificate

· Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or CPI Training

· Up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Police Screening

· Knowledge of Applied Behavioural Analysis principles is an asset

· Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder/ special needs is an asset

· Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum is an asset

· Computer literacy

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive salary starting at $21.00 per hour
