Job description

In support of the Mission, Vision and Values of SPM Automation Canada (Inc.), the Electrical Assembly Technician is responsible for supporting the Production Manager and all members of their team, including: the Electrical Assembly Leader; Mechanical Assembly Technicians; and, Electrical or Mechanical Apprentices. Reporting to the Electrical Assembly Leader, the Electrical Assembly Technician ensures the team meets or exceeds all organizational goals and objectives required from this department.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Attributes:

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION
  • Certificate of Qualifications as a Licensed Electrician (442A or 309A) preferred
  • Equivalent Experience as an Electrical Technician in a Manufacturing or Fabrication environment
  • Knowledge of the current Electrical Code and industrial power distribution systems
EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience working in a Manufacturing or Fabrication environment
  • Exceptional Knowledge of Manufacturing and Assembly Industry and Build-to-Engineering Standards
  • Knowledge in panel-build assembly, general assembly of equipment, and machine set-up
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and build assemblies as required by the Project specifications
  • Ability to verify the materials and components required for build prior to assembly
  • Ability to perform quality work checks to ensure the final product meets quality standards
  • Ability to modify and/or repair assembled equipment and components according to engineering specifications
  • Special knowledge/skills:
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting skills (Siemens/Allen Bradley)
  • HMI programming skills (Siemens/Allen Bradley)
  • Robot programming (Fanuc/ABB/Nachi)
  • Ability to read and interpret pneumatic drawings is an asset
  • Travel and the ability to perform customer service calls in the United States and other countries is required.
  • Personal standard hand tools for panel building are required
  • Ability to use hand- and power-tools for build and assembly
  • Reliable transportation to and from work (must hold valid driver’s licence)
OTHER ATTRIBUTES:
  • Ability to routinely lift up to 10Kg or 20 Lbs.
  • Ability to work overtime as required
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, suppliers, and customers as required
  • Proficient in time management, accurate timekeeping, and inventory tracking
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure and work independently
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs (such as Word and Excel)
