Job description

Electronics/ software engineer

Doorspec inc. is a growing company based in La Prairie QC that specializes in the provision of rail vehicle door systems for the refurbishment and specialist market. Automatic doors for rail vehicles require extensive safety critical control systems to ensure passenger safety and a high degree of reliability.

Safety critical redundant design techniques and a high degree of testing and system documentation to international standards are required to achieve these requirements, together with careful integration of mechanical, electrical, electronic and software elements of the design.

Doorspec Inc is looking for an experienced Electronics/ software engineer to carry out a senior supervisory and hands on role in the further development and testing of our range of application-specific electronic designs to suit specific projects.

The role requires familiarity with the control of small motors and embedded microprocessor systems and with designing, specifying, and producing control software for such systems.

Applications experience using ARM or similar embedded processors, and C or similar high level languages in a real time environment is very desirable as is the design of printed circuit boards using surface mount analog and digital technology.

Experience in using and or producing software design and testing documentation to IEEE or similar quality standards would be an advantage. Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement due to the international nature of Doorspec’s business.

A minimum of a degree-level qualification in a relevant subject plus a minimum of 5 year’s experience in a similar role is required.

The successful candidate would lead a small enthusiastic team of electrical, electronic and software engineers and report to the director of systems engineering. Experience as a team leader and the management of the electrical and software areas of projects is thus an important aspect of this role.

Sought after Knowledge

  • Familiarity with design and production of integrated microprocessor controls with software for such systems.
  • Experience in the conception, design and upgrade of safety control systems in rail, aeronautics or automobiles, a major asset.
  • Experience in automatic transportation door systems and/or fractional power control of AC and DC machines is ideal.
  • Knowledge of applications using ARM or similar embedded processors, and C or similar high-level languages ​​in a real-time environment is essential
  • Experience using and/or producing software design and testing documentation conforming to IEEE or similar quality standards would be an advantage.
  • Familiar with programmable logic controllers (PLC) and embedded processor systems, essential.
