Job Summary
Create, coordinate, implement and maintain a comprehensive Emergency Management Program for the City of Mississauga. This includes the development, updating and execution of policies and procedures to deal with the prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery phases of all emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
-Manage the review and/or development of support documents for support functions and City business units to support the response to significant events/emergencies impacting the City
-Collaborate with other departments, divisions and sections in the research, review and writing of protocols and procedures
-Evaluate planning outcomes, identify gaps and develop recommendations to improve preparedness
-Develops, Designs researches and delivers information sessions on personal, family and business emergency preparedness as well as conducting information sessions the City’s emergency plan
-Develop, organize and conduct annual emergency exercise(s)
-Prepare reports and documents in support of the by-law and provincial legislation
-Provide expert advice as the City’s expert on Emergency Management
-Develop, design, plan, identify, research, coordinate and deliver training to City staff
-Research national and international standards/best practices in Emergency Management
-Maintain and update all resource materials associated with emergency training
-Develop and administer emergency/disaster preparedness education for the public
-Provide professional, specialized skills including planning, project management, problem analysis and resolution
-Perform periodic reviews and test, report findings to management and make recommendations for improvements.
-Facilitate timely identification, escalation, resolution and follow-up for all outstanding issues
-Participate in project assignments
Skills and Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education, Disaster Management, Environmental Health or related discipline
-Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation or equivalent required
-Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License
-Master’s Degree in Emergency Management/Disaster Management or equivalent, preferred
-Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Emergency Management
-Instructor level certification in Incident Management System
-Provincially IMS certified – IMS-100, IMS-200, IMS-240, IMS-300, EM-200 and CEMC within 6 months of hire
-Experience in developing and delivering training and exercises
-Professional experience in adult education, training and facilitation
-Very strong written presentation
-May require some light lifting of supplies/materials. Exposure to computer keyboards and screens. 
-Primarily office environment with occasional site visits.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $46.79 - $62.39 
Hours of Work: 35
