Job Description


The County is looking for a Emergency Vehicle Technician to work in our Fleet and Maintenance department. The Emergency Vehicle Technician will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of Emergency Vehicles, including fire trucks, and other specialized vehicles used by our fire service and Transportation and Utilities departments. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of our Emergency Vehicles, helping to support our mission of providing prompt and efficient emergency response services to the community.

Typical Job Duties and Tasks:

  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on Emergency Vehicles, including fire trucks, and specialized equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to identify and resolve issues promptly.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance tasks, including fluid changes, filter replacements, and brake inspections, to ensure optimal vehicle performance and compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle, documenting parts used, services performed, and work completed.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Fleet and Maintenance and other team members to prioritize vehicle repairs and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Assist in sourcing and ordering parts and supplies necessary for vehicle repairs, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or safety.
  • Conduct road tests and perform quality control checks to ensure vehicles are functioning properly and meet all safety requirements.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments, new technologies, and regulations related to Emergency Vehicles and attend training sessions as required to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Comply with all safety protocols, regulations, and guidelines while performing job duties.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a preventive maintenance program for Emergency Vehicles to optimize fleet performance and longevity.
  • Perform CVIP inspections as required.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Journeyman Mechanic Certificate
  • Class 3 driver’s abstract with Q endorsement and an acceptable abstract
  • CVIP license or ability to get.
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician Certificate an asset
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Proficient knowledge of Emergency Vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and firefighting or ambulance-specific equipment.
  • Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and standards, including NFPA and Transport Canada regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate records and perform tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, collaborating effectively with other technicians and department personnel.
  • Effective communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical personnel and interact professionally with vendors and suppliers.

Additional Information


This position works Monday to Friday for 40 hours per week.

Hourly Pay: $42.03 to $49.45
