About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Learning, Culture and Change the Employee Career Advisor provides specialized career counselling and guidance to current internal employees in support of career advancement and overall employee retention. The Career Advisor develops and delivers career services with a goal of providing employees with advice about training and education, employment opportunities and career progression. They help team members build the skills and knowledge required to make future career decisions and achieve career success at Nova Scotia Health. The Career Advisor utilizes an individual case management approach in their practice, employing a collaborative process that assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates services required to meet an employee’s career development needs and goals. The Employee Career Advisor plays an active role in meeting the diverse and complex needs of Nova Scotia Heath employees using specialized knowledge and education in the area of career counselling. 
The Career Advisor provides advice, feedback, coaching, insights, and recommendations to clients in the following areas:
-Review of current and past work history and assessment of client interests and career aspirations
-Sharing and providing suggestions about upcoming advancement opportunities within NSH
-Collaboratively developing a career plan with stepped progression, timelines, and goal setting
-Connecting clients with relevant education or training resources 
-Resume writing/updating guidance, interview preparation, job search assistance
-NSH recruitment system training and navigation
-Assistance with applying to positions 
 
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
 
-Graduate of a post-secondary degree/program in Human Services, Business or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
-Min 3 years of experience with CCDP certification or 5 years of related experience in career counseling and/or coaching experience is required
-Proficient in the development and facilitation of career development workshops such as resumes, interviews, networking, etc.  
-EDIRA lens and cultural competency training
-Proficiency in Success Factors, MAP is a strong asset
-Experience interpreting and working within Collective Agreements, employment Terms and Conditions, employment guide articles, and relevant legislation (e.g., privacy legislation) 
-Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) or willingness to obtain the certification preferred
-Certification in Counselling or Adult Learning considered an asset
-Demonstrated experience with recruitment, career and employment counselling tools and techniques, labour market trends and developments, and job search strategies
-Experience in career advising within a healthcare or complex unionized setting preferred 
-Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation), customer service training and experience, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
-Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and collaborative approach to problem-solving

Hours
-Temporary Full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
-April 2024 - October 2025
-Approximately 18 months
-Some evenings maybe required

Compensation and Incentives
$30.32 - $37.90 Hourly
