Employee Relations Specialist
 (Permanent Position)
Overall Responsibility:
-Develop, promote a positive, progressive Employee Relations Management system that ensures fairness to all employees and accomplishes desired organizational results through the use of appropriate strategies, tactics and tools.
-Participate in the development and execution of ArcelorMittal Employee Relations strategies and plans. 
 
Main Accountabilities:
-Policy Development & Management
-Review existing Human Resources policies and assess the need to develop or revise based on legislative changes, court and arbitration decisions, corporate needs, changes in the social environment and comparisons with external competitors.
-Create an awareness and understanding amongst employees at all levels of leadership regarding corporate and local policies and legal compliance to ensure employment issues are handled in a fair and consistent manner across all departments.
 
-Mediation/Conflict Resolution
-Facilitate discussion and mediate resolution between employees and leadership for employment related issues.
-Lead, consult, faciliate  and execute initiatives and strategies as the Subject Matter Expert in the field of conflict resolution, mediation, accommodations, employment relations issues and employee statuses.
 
-Investigations
-Support Investigator with Business investigations into allegations of discrimination, bullying and harassment.   
 
-Training
-Develop tools, including formalized training programs for  leadership to ensure the understanding and effective application of policies.
 
-Discipline/Termination
-Investigate and provide recommendations for action on complex disciplinary situations and terminations involving dismissals of  employees where applicable.
-Assist Legal Counsel in compiling information to respond to demand letters or prepare for tribunal or trial, Ministry Of Labour requests for documentation.
 
-Program Administration
-Program Administrator for the Company’s Fitness for Work Policy, including providing direction to Leadership and employees on policy and process, referral of employees to substance abuse professionals, receiving in confidence and interpreting information received by third party service provider, implementation and active monitoring of return to work agreements including unannounced testing.
-Support the workplace non-medical accomodation process.
-Monitor and analyze achievement of Employee Relations Key Performance Indications (KPI), goals and projects in the annual business plan through the HR Scorecard.  Provide regular assessments to the management team and executives including issue escalation.
 
-Audits
-Lead Human Resources cost and compliance audits.
 
-Project Support
-Perform additional assignments and special projects to support Employee Relations as required.
-Consult and collaborate with other areas of People and Culture for professional advice & contracting of specialized services.
 
Knowledge
-Working knowledge in employment legislation and law.
-Working knowledge in Employee Relations procedures, processes, and practices.
-General knowledge of organizational systems framework.
-General knowledge of business processes and manufacturing processes is required.
-General knowledge of Human Resources strategy is required.
-Working knowledge of HR processes, tools, methods, and systems are required.
-General knowledge of corporate business practices and principles and financial processes are required.
Skills
-Excellent skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving, facilitation, counseling and mediation are required.
-Advanced communications, report writing, presentation, and consulting skills are required.
-Intermediate personal computer skills, standard corporate software applications and applicable system skills are required.
-Very good organization and time management skills to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing deadlines and the need to respond quickly to meet stakeholder needs and resolve problems are required.
-Engagement, driven and self-initiator skills are required.
-Organizational credibility and tactfulness skills are required.
-Demonstrated decision making skills and ability to problem solve issues using a high degree of detail and ability sound judgment in complex and ambiguous situations are required.
Desired Qualifications
-Four-year university degree in business, Human Resources, or labour relations and a minimum of 3 – 5 of job-related experience is required.
-Canadian Human Resources Professional (CHRP) certification is an asset. 
 
Work Environment
-Plant/office environment.  Required to wear personal protective safety equipment as specified within the business unit.
-This position is eligible to work from home in accordance with our current Flexible Work Options Policy. 
 
Hours of Work 
-Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads.
