Employment and Training Coordinator


Department:

Employment and Training - Located at Kitimat Valley Institute

Job Overview/Purpose:

The purpose is to work with members, staff, employers, and other external organizations. The Work Placement Coordinator will be expected to play a key part in further developing the Employment & Training department to support sustained growth in the number and range of placements we can offer members and to continuously improve the work placement experiences of members, employers and other external organizations that host them.

Duties:

  • Advises members about placement opportunities that match their interests and aspirations; assists members with making informed choices about their placement requests;
  • Research and identify potential new placement opportunities to meet current and future placement requirements;
  • Analyze the needs of both placement providers and members and combine these to ensure appropriate matches are made between providers and members;
  • Provide Individual Development Plans for members;
  • To be responsible for ensuring that the central database on all work placements in the department is maintained and up to date, and to ensure confidentiality on the maintenance of records;
  • To proactively develop and maintain employer links in key areas of the department’s activity, with a view to establishing new and repeating sources of work placement opportunities;
  • To be responsible for coordinating agreed activities and events of the promotion of employability opportunities or activities with key internal and external stakeholders;
  • Designing and implementing work-readiness programs including resume writing, interview preparation workshops, etc.;
  • Administer Bridge Funding for new work placement opportunities for members as per Employment and Training Policy;
  • Administer employment related programs within department;
  • Identifies members who may require assessment and follow-up remedial activities following an extended absence from work placement.

Qualifications:

  • Office Administration or Business Administration certificate;
  • Extensive experience providing training and mentoring to individuals in work placement situations;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
  • Demonstrated experience working with First Nations;
  • Willing to complete Criminal Record Check.
